Our server was very sweet. I would give five stars for the atmosphere and service. As for the food, it was decent, but it's not my favorite Japanese spot in town. We tried the wagyu, and while it had a good flavor to the sauce, it was a bit on the chewy side. Overall, I would rate the food three stars.

However, the restaurant itself is charming, adorned with delightful anime decorations and playing some fantastic old-school RnB music. Unfortunately, my photos turned out poorly because the lighting is quite dim. We started with some sake to share—Junmai Ginjo and Sakura sake (which I can’t quite recall the name of). The one in the photo was my favorite; I generally dislike floral flavors, but this sake was dangerously drinkable and had a smooth finish. I also adored the cute little sake dish with a rabbit at the bottom! As for the food, we shared a deep-fried pork belly dish as an appetizer, which was topped with a sticky soy glaze over the vegetables. I loved the crunchiness of the skin and the tender, melting texture of the pork belly. It was a rich appetizer, but truly delicious! Next up was a rather blurry but exciting dish of wagyu tataki with chimichurri sauce—a personal favorite of mine! I absolutely love chimichurri for its herbaceous, zesty flavors, which complemented the rich fattiness of the wagyu beef perfectly. Some of my companions aren’t fans of rare meat, which just meant there was more for me! We also ordered some chicken karaage pieces; they were decent but nothing extraordinary. Then we had a large grilled fish, which was quite plain on its own but well-cooked and very meaty. My favorite dish, however, was the deep-fried cheese-stuffed pork fillet. Oh boy, give me that with some curry rice, and I’m all in! I loved the melty cheese, crispy coating, and juicy pork inside. It was served on a bed of shredded cabbage with a few tiny pickles to feign healthiness. We also ordered two servings of curry rice with chicken and pork katsu. While it wasn’t anything special, the portions were generous! The next two pictures showcase their two set yakitori options. Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed with the skewers; they all came out overcooked, oily, and cold, which surprised me as everything else was served hot and promptly. We shared a sukiyaki hotpot, featuring a strong soy flavor with plenty of thinly sliced beef to enjoy. I preferred the seafood hotpot, which had an abundance of crab, mussels, and udon-style noodles. The soup base in that one was much more flavorful. If you’re in the area, I recommend giving this place a shot! It has a Korean/Japanese izakaya vibe, along with some intriguing fusion dishes, a great atmosphere, and efficient service. That said, I do worry that its poor location and lack of visibility from the main road might hinder its success.

I visited this place on a Saturday night with my sister and brother, after spotting it on Instagram, and we had such an enjoyable evening! We ordered two types of hotpot, served in individual stoves, along with their wagyu steak. The steak was quite nice, but the hotpots really stole the show and tasted incredible! They were perfect for a chilly night, and the portions were very satisfying. We also sampled Skewer Set B, which included bacon with mushrooms, unagi, steak, and chicken gizzards. I absolutely loved the unagi skewer; it was juicy, tender, and packed with flavor. The staff were incredibly friendly and laid-back. We strolled around the restaurant, admiring the decor, and the staff even let us play with some slime! The thoughtful details in the lighting, music, and decor create a perfect atmosphere for dining and drinks at night. Overall, it was a wonderful experience dining at Doujo. The food was delightful, the atmosphere was fantastic, and the staff were excellent. I will definitely return to try more dishes and drinks!

We ducked into this funky Melbourne-esq venue the other night. What a hidden gem! We tried various dishes and the quality of all the produce was superb. Their sashimi dishes, beautifully presented and with high grade fish. The service was great. All their dishes had a modern twist, either with the sauce or the garnishes. It’s very hard choosing a favourite dish as everything was great. Will be returning very soon!
