Pompeo's - Branford
Pompeo's
Description
Pompeo’s restaurant presents a dichotomy of dining experiences. Guests rave about the delicious, authentic Italian dishes and friendly service, particularly from an attentive staff. Many have enjoyed celebratory events here, praising the generous portions and affordable prices. However, some diners report troubling incidents, including miscommunication regarding charges and unappetizing food encounters. Cleanliness concerns have also been noted. Despite its low patronage at times, highlights like homemade bread and a welcoming atmosphere continue to draw customers in. For those seeking hearty Italian fare, Pompeo’s may be worth exploring, albeit with a hint of caution.

The food here is absolutely delightful. The shrimp fra diavolo was extraordinary, and the bread was definitely freshly baked. I knew this place was special when I spotted a little old Italian lady dining solo at 8:30 on a Wednesday. This is genuine Italian cuisine!
It's so disappointing to hear that this will be the last Christmas Eve we can order trays! The service is fantastic and the food is excellent—truly authentic, home-cooked Italian cuisine. Wishing you a wonderful retirement!
We hosted a private event here and opted for a buffet style meal. There were plenty of choices, and everything was delicious. The menu included chicken, fish, and pasta options, along with stuffed bread, roasted potatoes, and salad—all for just $21 per person.
I actually found Pompeo’s on Google Maps minutes before driving into their parking lot. My wife and I noticed there was only one other car in the lot at around 6pm on a Saturday! She thought that was a bad sign and wanted to leave. My brother and sister-in-law were in the car next to us and also hesitated. I encouraged all to give the place a chance, plus it was raining and I didn’t want to drive around looking for another Italian restaurant. We stepped inside and didn’t see a soul in sight. We called out a lone woman who I believe was the owner came out and seated us. She was the only person we saw in the restaurant the entire time we were there. She was wonderful and attended to our needs and we all enjoyed talking with her every time she came out with a drink or dish. We couldn’t figure out why the place was empty on a Saturday night as the food was excellent! If you’ve read my previous restaurant reviews, you know my German wife is extremely picky about restaurant food because she’s a great cook in her own right. Well, she loved her penne ala vodka and took half home and ate it for lunch the next day and she NEVER does that! I loved the flavor of my Margherita pizza with ham, however, I was disappointed that it didn’t come with fresh cut tomatoes and basil. The calamari appetizer was delicious, but a little on the salty side. My brother loved his Veal w/pasta and my sister-in-law loved her stuffed cod w/broccoli. The prices for the dishes were very reasonable in the mid teens and plentiful. I would love to keep Pompeo’s to myself and not share them to the public because it was nice to not having to wait in line or spend an arm and a leg for their delicious food. Go check them out and you’ll thank me later. Oh, and did I mention the warm fresh Italian bread and fresh house salad?
