On March 8th, we visited Café 89. Whenever we come to The Range, we always enjoy coffee and the full breakfast, which I love. However, yesterday I decided to try something different and ordered a breakfast sandwich. There weren’t many people at the time, but I still waited 20 minutes for my sandwich! Unfortunately, I didn’t like it. This was my first disappointment here. Food: 3 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4
The service at Café 89 was quite disappointing, with no smiles from the staff and a very slow-moving queue. While I understand the wait, there was no apology offered. We ordered breakfast when the café was about half full, yet it took 30 minutes to arrive. When it finally did, the meal was decent, but the overall experience was affected by the cold atmosphere inside—the heating didn’t seem to be on, and one employee was even wearing a heavy coat. The menu had potential, but the poor service and uncomfortable environment made the visit less enjoyable.
I visited Café 89 for lunch with a friend today and we each ordered a panini and a coffee. Unfortunately, the service was extremely slow—we waited about 15-20 minutes despite plenty of staff being around, but they didn’t seem well organized. When the paninis finally arrived, they were actually baguette rolls filled with bland cheese and tomato that had likely been microwaved rather than toasted. The sandwiches were barely warm and completely tasteless—very disappointing, especially since it was my idea to come here! I definitely won't be returning. The staff clearly need better training and the management needs to improve organization. From what I’ve seen in other reviews, it seems many others have experienced similar issues with both service and food, yet nothing has changed. It’s a shame because the Range is a lovely store, but I’d recommend going there to shop and heading to Dunelm for coffee and lunch instead.
