We visited on a Wed night, with the kids at home and wanted a cosy dinner for two. The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere, cool decor, warm and inviting. Service was very good we were informed what every dish was and a wine was served that worked well with each course. The started was interesting raw Dorade with a pumpkin puree the flavours and texture married well together. However, clams in a broth does not work for me and with the lobster dish the puree theme returned and I was reminded too much of the entré. The main dish of Ox cheek, was well cooked and served, but the contrast to the other courses was not great enough. The dessert, I couldn't tell you what it was. The ice cream was too crystallised and the flavour was not strong enough. The pureed fruit slightly sour and the whole dish lacked that finale one wished for with dessert. So a pleasant evening, in a good atmosphere with good service but for us average food. Would I recommend it...I guess it should be tried
Aloha! We had the distinct pleasure of having dinner at Five in Bochum on Thursday, July 25, 2019 with our daughter and Son In-Law, who live in Herne. Apparently, they’ve had several meals here over the past year. The restaurant wasn’t busy on this Thursday evening, which was nice as we had time to get to know our server, who’s first night on the job was the same day, the Wine Steward, who was very friendly and knowledgeable, and the talented Chef. The first thing I noticed as we were seated was that the Pre-Fixe menu was crumpled up in a ball, in a small basket on the dining room table. A little unusual, but not offending in any way. The waitress served us piping hot bread, served in a paper bag, again, not offensive, just different. The bread and accompanying butter was delicious. 3 of us ordered the regular menu and 1 ordered the Vegetarian menu. Both were nothing short of spectacular. The stars of the regular menu was the Beet Soup with Salmon Roe and a perfectly cooked filet of Salmon, the crispy Mullet and the Bison Tenderloin. Dessert was equally fabulous. Do yourself a favor and visit this restaurant. It’s so good, that they hang their many awards and accolades in their restrooms!
I live in Bochum for a few years now, and have heard about this menu restaurant only two months ago… sure enough I was curious. My husband 's birthday was a good chance to satisfy my curiosity. We were excited to try this place out and judging from the price class anticipated an exquisite experience. We liked the ambience and enjoyed truly good (though not superb) food (going well with suggested wine selection). The service was conscientious, but the fine quality I was so looking forward to was missing. The waitress was a pleasant young women, still her placid introduction to our chosen menu interrupted with a lot of 'hmm 's and 'so 's stole some charm away. We will most probably come back some time but not necessary soon the fact that the 'regularly changing ' menu changes actually only every six weeks or so does not encourage next visit in immediate future.
