Reviews summary

BBQ Train emerges as a polarizing dining experience, drawing both praise and disappointment. While some patrons celebrate the pulled pork and ribs as among the best in Bloomington, others report dry meats and cold accompaniments, likening their meals to cafeteria fare. The menu appears limited, and the setting—attached to a gas station—might deter some. However, loyal customers appreciate the friendly service and homemade sides. With new management promising authentic Jamaican flavors, BBQ Train invites adventurous diners to give it another chance, raising the tantalizing question: will the next visit prove to be a delectable delight or a regrettable choice?.

What Jaime González dislikes about Bbq Train:

I visited this restaurant at 1pm on a Tuesday and ordered the pulled pork sandwich combo. The pork was dry and only slightly warm, and the bun was cold as if it had just come out of the refrigerator. The sauce I received from a bottle was also cold. I was very disappointed because I had high expectations based on the reviews I had read. I don't plan on returning. I absolutely adore this restaurant! When my family lived in Bloomington from 2013-2015, we used to frequent BBQ Train. The food is still phenomenal, the service is quick, and the prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend this place - you must give it a try at least once and you'll be hooked!

I had a slightly better experience than most of the reviews here. I visited the restaurant around 1pm and ordered the pulled chicken dinner. It was very fresh and I could make two sandwiches out of it. The potato salad and beans were homemade.

I would say the best pulled pork in all of Bloomington. You can't find it anywhere else as good as this one in the city! You have to come here and try their pulled pork sandwich and loaded fries, they are perfect!

I have tried many BBQ joints for their ribs, and the ribs at this place are good. They may not be as delicious as your mama's, but they are good. In my opinion, they are on par with Metzger Block Smokehouse. Much better than Caron's Ripening (their oven baked ribs are terrible, never go there). There aren't too many good BBQ places in this area of Indiana. I can't speak for their other dishes, but I can confirm that their ribs are good. I am giving an extra star because Caron's Ripening in Bloomington and Smokin-Jim's in Bedford are just terrible.

I chose to have lunch at this restaurant today, but I wish I hadn't. I ordered the brisket and was not impressed. It did not have a smoked flavor and was in small, shredded pieces similar to Arby's roast beef. It was also clear that it had been reheated and was not fresh. I paid $13 for a disappointing sandwich and fries. I will not be returning to BBQ Train - I will go to Carsons for authentic smoked BBQ instead.

I am really surprised at the 4 and 5 star reviews. The food here is horrible, and expensive for what it is. We watched them take the beans out of a big open generic can and microwave them. Then charged me $6. The fries came out of a chaffing dish, they were soggy, mealy and stale. The ovens are off, the kitchen is mostly just warmers, and this is at lunch time. No ketchup, no napkins, the food area is dirty and sticky, and the meat was old and processed tasting. We spent almost $30 for lunch and the whole experience was really bad. Sorry BBQ Train, your website looks good, but you dont have food to match. I am embarrassed for you.
