We visited Jongleurs for the first time last night. I was a bit disappointed with the seating arrangement—it was just seats lined up on the dance floor, very close together, with no tables to place drinks on. This meant we had to put our drinks on the floor, which led to spilling two full drinks that I had to replace, and at over £5 each, that was frustrating. You have to arrive at 7 PM, but the show doesn’t start until 8, so there’s an hour of waiting around. The drinks are quite expensive. On the plus side, the nightclub aspect is good with a great variety of music. Unfortunately, some people couldn’t handle their alcohol and started fights, which was disappointing. Overall, though, we had a good night.
I used to attend Jongleurs events at their previous venues in Birmingham, but I was very disappointed with the one I went to tonight (March 3rd). The space was overcrowded, with no tables to place drinks on, the room was freezing cold, and there was no food available. We were squeezed into a small area on the dancefloor, facing a poorly put-together red curtain as a backdrop. The stage was tiny and it felt like the comedy night was an afterthought. This was a huge downgrade compared to the facilities at previous Jongleurs locations. I felt embarrassed, especially since I had organized this as a birthday night out for my partner and friends. Overall, it was very disappointing.
I visited Jongleurs on Saturday with my daughter, who was experiencing a comedy club for the first time and really enjoyed it. However, having been to Jongleurs at their previous location, I found this visit disappointing in comparison. I was looking forward to the table seating and the food options we enjoyed last year but was disappointed to find theatre-style seating instead. With an hour to wait before the show, I hoped to get a bite to eat, but the bar staff said they only had popcorn or one flavor of crisps. One of the comedians even made a joke about someone eating crisps at a comedy show, but honestly, that was the only choice available. The show ended by 9:30 after only two comedians. Last time, it went on longer with three comedians and had a much better atmosphere. Overall, I was disappointed and will definitely choose a different club next time if things don’t improve. I did like the venue itself, and they could turn things around by moving to a bigger space with tables, food options, and more entertainment.
