When we asked for a table for 2 we were taken in a room to the left, where the menu bore no resemblance to the food on the chalkboard. However, we decided to stay as the dishes looked interesting. We did not get a starter, as they were as expensive as the main courses. We chose the cheapest meals on the menu €17), and when they arrived we were really pleased as they were delicious. We were given some bread, and a pre-meal consommé of some description before a main course arrived. We also had a dessert, which was also delicious. We were full when we left on those 2 courses. Wine was slightly more expensive than in local bars, but still hugely cheaper than in the UK! Only issue is the staff could have smiled a little more, as we didn’t feel overly welcome.
First impressions this appeared to be a pleasurable place to eat, but the service was extremely slow and the food and wine when they finally found a route to your table were average to poor, a disappointing experience, which is a shame because with a little more effort!
We stayed at the Hotel Ercilla and decided to have dinner in the hotel restaurant one afternoon. The waiter welcomed us and we were seated at a window table. We decided to go for the tasting menu. This costs 50 euros per person and included wine. There was a lot back and forth as the menu stated that all guests at the table had to order the tasting menu. As we were three person they had to ask the chef if that was ok. We didn’t understand what the problem was as we all three wanted the same. Apparently they meant the tasting menu was for two...which the menu didn’t state at all. However all the 6 courses tasted lovely, and so did the Rioja wine as well.
This restaurant is a classic in bilbao, it is the restaurant of a pretigious hotel and therefore it is a meeting point of visitors of the city, although there are also many bilbaínos who come here for dinner. the food is delicious, with many sea products, including the typical cod that prepares delicious in salad. the waiters are very professional and the price goes according to quality and the environment.
Went here twice, once last Friday for dinner and once on Monday for lunch. It is a really nice casual layout restaurant. Both times the staff were really friendly and kind. They provide an English menu which is really helpful due to my unfortunate lack of speaking Spanish. The food was really nice both times we were here. The alcohol servings are really generous which was great. (compared to in England, it seemed normal at most places here) The price was good.
