What User doesn't like about Restaurant Centenario:
The food here is average, but the service is extremely slow, even by Central America standards. I truly hate to give such a poor review, but things were truly just that bad. We even went back a second time, willing to give this place another try, thinking that maybe they were just having a bad night...that apparently wasn't the case. The food here is average, but the service is extremely slow, even by Central America standards. I truly hate to give such a poor review, but things were truly just that bad. We even went back a second time, willing to give this place another try, thinking that maybe they were just having a bad night...that apparently wasn't the case. Also, this was the only place during our visit where we experienced a bit of discrimination as foreign travelers. The building is beautiful, and there could be so much potential to do something great with this restaurant, but it was the most disappointing experience of our entire visit.
Just off the main drag of Bernal, in the Hotel Centenario, you'll find this Mexican traditional restaurant set in the most beautiful spacious architecture on two levels. The architecture is was attracted us to try it out, while the food and service will have us coming back when in the area. We were two couples. Three people had Carne a la Tampiqueña (Filet) and I had the Arrachera, both served in the traditional way. Very good portion sizes at USD 10 per dish, would cost more than the double in the U.S. Everything is reasonably priced for the quality, beautiful interiors and service. Service was friendly and unobtrusive, orders taken and food served in reasonable time for home cooked food. While Bernal is mostly famous for the La Peña rock, we had been at nearby Freixenette to visit the cava a tour and tasting. Bernal is about 10-15 minutes away and a great lunch option after the winery tour.
Food was good, served very quickly, but what stands out is definitely the service. All waiting staff are working with a friendly smile and with courtesy.
