Best place to enjoy humus and grill in berlin. Service was superb and food was great.
The kebab had an incredible taste, with well-balanced spices like cloves, and the hummus was exceptional. The sesame sauce tasted homemade and pure. The Shiraz wine was smooth and perfect. We also enjoyed the shocko mousse, complemented by roasted cloves and pistachio.
The hummus is quite bland to be honest. You can't taste any smoky flavor from Babagannus or grilled vegetables salad. We loved the cauliflower though. Overall, it was a little bit dissappointing not to be able to find anything special.
Went to Djimalaya the first time in October '21 and would go rather often as the food had a nice fresh clean quality about it and I lived incredibly close. The best dish in my opinion, the mixed starters, came with two warm pita breads. If you asked for a third one which you probably would, as not only was pita bread good, but the mixed plate consisted largely of hummus and other spreadable stuff you would get it. You would also get an unimpressed look by the waiter which made me wonder, as I am a very polite guest and generous tipper. But I could not test if this was the attitude of all waiters or just the two that had served me that month. In November you had to pay for that extra pita bread. Around December you only got one single pita bread. I decided there and then to say goodbye to the shop. So, I was very pleased when my boyfriend came home one January day with the mixed starters and two pita breads Oh, they finally got it! Asking you to pay for bread ruins the whole restaurant experience. It makes it so uncomfortably transactional when the appearance of hospitality falls apart. If you can 't make it work financially, rather go up a little bit with the prices of dishes/drinks . To my horror I learned that he had had to pay for each pita bread 1,6 Euro, while by then the mixed starter itself had become more expensive. Last week I had vegetarian friends come over who had had too much Italian and Vietnamese. Djimalaya 's food was the only one we could agree on. So I went for the first time in months to pick up our order. How did it taste? Okay, I guess. Prices? Gone a bit up, yet again. Portions? Smaller, I think. Complementary bread? 0, nix, nada. But the pita bread price has gone by 20 cents and is now at proud 1,8 Euro a piece. Poor taste, big pity.
