My husband and I recently stayed in Berlin for a week at the Citadines apartments. We found this gem the morning of our arrival and went for breakfast and an afternoon snack at least times. The pastries are fresh, delicious and very reasonable. They...have a wide assortment as well as coffee, tea, hot cocoa and several cold beverages. Seating is available inside and outside, We are back in the states and miss our almost daily visit to Backstop which is right near a U Bahn station.
Made a few trips to this bakery for coffees, sandwiches and sweet pastries, croissants etc. All very fresh, reasonably priced. Nothing that we purchased was poor quality and compared very well to say a Greggs in the UK. Particularly enjoyed the the seeded slice and...the the fresh sandwiches. You can eat in, this would be at a standing bar style arrangement, but we scarpered back to our hotel...the breakfast there much more expensive and less enjoyable.
If you are around olivaer platz in charlottenburg, you must visit this tiny little standing room only bakery and cafe filled with freshly baked bread rolls, pastries, some cakes, sandwiches and salads. this is my favourite place for breakfast where i grab half a bread...roll with scrambled eggs (perfect size for small eaters), an espresso with little milk which comes to a whopping Euro can you believe it? totally unreal! perk up your ears, budget travellers! i have tried all their other sandwiches they are all yummy and being a regular now, i get a complimentary pastry with each of my order. jeez, there goes the waistline! grab a space at one of the two bars facing a lush city park across the road filled with birds and enjoy the scenery as you munch your meal.
