Westbrae Biergarten - Berkeley
Westbrae Biergarten
Description
Nestled in a charming neighborhood, this restaurant offers a vibrant outdoor dining experience complete with eclectic seating and a picturesque setting. While some dishes, like the tri-tip rice bowl, have received rave reviews for their taste, options like the loaded nachos have disappointed due to subpar ingredients. Patrons appreciate a solid beer selection and the relaxed atmosphere, though some note the slightly elevated prices. With rotating food vendors and a selection catering to families, this spot can become crowded but remains a go-to choice for those seeking a casual meal in Berkeley's charming locale.

I found this restaurant to be charming. The line can get quite long, so I recommend ordering a beer with your original order. The Pedro's rice bowl with tri-tip was amazing, as were the spiced potatoes. The beef empanadas were a hit as well. Don't forget to try the yeast-like bread, it was fantastic! Keep in mind that seating is outdoors only, so bring layers for the windy Berkeley weather.
The dining experience at this restaurant is extremely overpriced and subpar. I ordered the 12-ounce bowl of vegan minestrone soup with beans for $12, only to find it tasted like the cardboard cup and plastic lid it was served in. The price for the soup was $1 per ounce, which is quite steep considering the quality. The only redeeming factor was the beer, which was good. Overall, I would not recommend paying such high prices for mediocre food when there are much better options available at other restaurants.
We decided to have a small family gathering at this place and it turned out to be a great choice. They had a wide range of outdoor seating options, a fantastic beer selection, and the food was absolutely delicious.
Was very happy that we checked this place after another restaurant was too busy! they have rotating food vendors, a large and eclectic exterior to sit a little waterfall, adirondack chairs, and a counter for children (calcboard walls to draw and other things I would imagine keeping children pretty busy!)
Beautiful spacious outdoor dining with plenty of heat lamps! Food choices were good. Only negative is the loaded nachos which had some kind of fake cheese sauce on it. Disappointing since it doesn't take much to use real cheese. Had the tortilla soup and salad. Both were very well prepared and yummy. Would still come back to try the others on the menu.
