T-toust - Berkeley
T-toust
Description
T-Toust is a campus-side comfort-food spot known for spicy, flavorful soondubu and affordable Korean staples. Fast kiosk ordering and self-service suit busy students seeking a warm solo lunch, while mushroom ramyun, tteokbokki and banchan are crowd-pleasers. Expect homey, slightly cramped dining, quick turnaround and inconsistent portion size and heat. Service can feel rushed or curt, tech glitches and irregular hours frustrate patrons. Best for a speedy, hearty study break rather than a relaxed night out.

This is my go-to spot during breaks between classes! The tofu soup is both hearty and delicious, served with rice, an egg, and optional banchan. We also tried the bulgogi, which was sweet and savory, although the portion is meant for just one person. The tteokbokki was tasty, but the texture of the rice cakes differs from what I’ve had at other places. It's mostly self-service here: you place your order at the kiosk, pick up your food, and return your tray when you're done. Despite the self-service setup, the staff was friendly and we received our meals in about 15 minutes.
FOOD: 2 stars... suitable for those with low quality expectations AMBIANCE: 2.5 stars... crowded and awkwardly laid out SERVICE: 2.5 stars... minimal engagement TOTAL: 2 stars... a convenient choice for busy college students If you're visiting Berkeley, you can find my other reviews here: bit.ly/2CbVh8u.
This restaurant comes across as rude and dismissive when it comes to customer service. Many of my friends have had similar experiences here. While the food is acceptable, it’s not exceptional, and they definitely need to improve their attitude. I would suggest checking out other worthwhile places in the area before spending your money here.
The tofu stew was pretty tasty and salty. The spicy rice cake was really good. The rice cake had the perfect chewy texture. The chicken nugget tasted like school lunch nuggets and the portion was really small for $8. The place is all self serve
EASILY my favorite place for soondubu. Super flavorful and spicy is actually a good amount of spicy (which I appreciate). Located conveniently across from campus while also being reasonably priced, definitely t toust is one of my frequented and favorite places for a solo lunch meal. While I can't attest to their other items (aside from the bibimbap which is solid but not my go to), their soondubu has my heart. Docked off star because the place seems to be closed whenever campus is not in session; I have come a few times on off days or weekends and sometimes they are closed even when Yelp hours say otherwise. Otherwise, you'll most likely see this restaurant open on school days. For student, I highly recommend giving out their soondubu a try when you're busy and just want a nice and warm meal in solitude.
