Top Dog, a cherished Berkeley eatery, specializes in classic hot dogs and sausages, known for their perfect toppings and flavorful options like the New York Frank and Calabrese sausage. While loyal patrons praise the delicious offerings, the recent dining experience has been marred by inconsistent customer service. Complaints of rude staff, poor communication, and an unwelcoming atmosphere detract from the overall enjoyment. The restaurant's charm lies in its nostalgic roots, yet such service issues raise concerns for potential customers seeking a great meal in a friendly environment. It remains a culinary gem for hot dog enthusiasts, but not without caveats.

The fact that tax is included in the price alone deserves a perfect rating of 5 stars, and I urge all readers to adopt this practice. Excluding taxes from prices is deceptive and frustrating for customers, leading them to overspend and requiring extra calculations. It also seems like a sneaky tactic to pass on additional fees to patrons. Pricing transparency, respectability, and a seamless customer experience are achieved by including tax in the price. Additionally, the staff here are very relaxed and the hot dogs are delicious.

Top Dog takes me back to my college days, when I would treat myself to delicious food.

I would not even give this restaurant one star for the service we received. My wife was taking a picture of the restaurant to remember our positive experience at topdog, a famous place known for its history and delicious food. Suddenly, a Latino employee started yelling at my pregnant wife and harshly demanded that she delete all the photos. We were extremely offended by her behavior, as we had no idea what we had done wrong. We apologized twice even though we were unsure of the issue, but the employee almost threw our food at us. It seems that racism may still be present in this establishment. I regret giving her a tip when we paid. I do not know if the owner will see this review, but I hope that other Asian customers do not have to experience such a humiliating situation.

It's a tight squeeze but worth it if you like all kinds of hot dog sausages served with add your own sauerkraut and pickle relish with mustard or ketchup on a bun. Traditional, good and hot off the grill with great lemonade or sodas to go. It kept myhusband fed through several years at Berkeley. Glad it's still there so many years after graduation. We still visit to eat everytime we are in Town. He likes the New York Frank's with crisp skin that pops the flavor in your mouth with each bite. I preferthe Bockwurst, fatter and juicier; each to their own. It's an institution not to be missed.

I can't believe of all the places that have survived the last 50 years, Top Dog is still here. I remember as a graduate student, I would buy a hot dog no drink for 65 cents. Load up on sauerkraut and that was dinner. I can't believe nothing haschanged but the prices.
