I just called the restaurant and it seems like the restaurant has been sold to new owners. I have hopes for the new restaurant but I will say that Royal Rangoon with the family that ran it was my favorite restaurant in the Bay area and I'm really sad to see that family go. Thank you so much for feeding us with kindness. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $20–30 Recommended dishes: Tea Leaf Salad, Samosa Soup
So sad to hear of Royal Rangoon’s closing. The family that ran this restaurant was incredibly kind and the food was phenomenal. Praying for their future success in whatever new endeavor they pursue.
Best Burmese in the Bay Area. Every dish I have tried here is superior to the other Burmese spots I’ve tried. The atmosphere is fantastic and they try to make your experience memorable every time. I love their samosa soup and tea leaf salad. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Recommended dishes: Tea Leaf Salad, Samosa Soup

Small restaurant, good ambience with some Burma maps on the wall. I like places where you can have dinner on the bar . I had the Royal Rangoon noodles and their red chicken curry. The curry was great. Royal Rangoon noodles are served cold which don't tastegood when they are cold. Probably I don't get the idea as to why that dish is supposed to be served cold.
I?ve ordered a variety of items over the past few years, and have liked each one. Personal standouts are the tea leaf salad, pork curry, and eggplant curry. The staff are always so kind.
Our second time at Royal Rangoon. Feels like you cannot go wrong with the food here. I would have given a five stars but yesterday, the restaurant was busy and that created some room for a little bit of delay in everything. But overall, a pleasantexperience.

A hidden gem: Best halal Burmese place in the Bay Area We went with a party of 8. In order to reserve, we called ahead of time and confirmed a 7:30 pm check in. Waiter said we were welcome to walk in. He also verbally confirmed the food was halal. Satisfied, we drove to the place at the confirmed time. Decor was pretty nice and the restaurant was quiet given there were very few diners. We ordered the following appetizers and mains: 1 Tea leaf salad 2 Samosa 3 Mango salad 4 Basil chilli lamb 5 Basil chilli beef 6 Sesame chicken 7 Fried rice 8 Coconut rice All the items were absolutely delicious! The salad were oh so crunchy and so fresh! The combination of toasted garlic, peanuts and nuts with the tangy salad was really good! I thought the salad at Burma superstar was good, but this was much better! Fried rice was really good too and so were the other mains. All in all, highly recommend. This will be our go to place up north. P.S: For folks considering halal, note they serve pork too.
Excellent service, delicious, we were able to order mild food and it wasn't too spicy, just full of flavor, lots of vegan options, The food came out hot.
The owner is dealing with water damage and landlord issues so when we went they were takeout only. I feel for him and hope people keep supporting this gem of a business. That being said, was a little disappointed in the dishes (except for the coconut rice--that stuff is GOLD . Let the guy at the front talk me into a salad that was very blah (trust your gut, don't be swayed! . And we got eggplant (yum! With overly fried tofu (sigh . But that coconut rice..... Dreamy. I'll be back!

My bf and I LOVE this place! Their chicken curry with palata deal is SO good and their garlic noodles with duck are the BEST! I’m so happy we started ordering from here during the pandemic-it’s one of our new favs!
I've been coming here since they've open to the point that the staff recognized me and knew what I liked jaja, I've tried many of their dishes and loved each one. Though i am especially partial to their tea leaves salad and mint pork. Even through the pandemic they have retained a high quality and excellent preparation... I can't want to be able to dine in one the Rona is out of the way
Another reason for me to return to Berkeley. I love this place (great ice cream after meal). Last time we went (before the pandemic) we had a group of eight people and we ordered all different things and shared. Man I still think about the stuff we had that night.
I frequent this restaurant often because it's conveniently located next to my workplace. The service is consistently excellent and the cleanliness of the restaurant is always top-notch. The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous.
