We arrived before t... read more We were really excited to try this place and even walked a long way to get there—but unfortunately, the experience was deeply disappointing. We arrived before two other couples, yet both were greeted promptly, allowed to place their orders, and then seated right away. This restaurant works on a system where you order before being seated, but when we tried to do that, we were told to “go sit down and wait” and that they’d let us know when they were ready—something we didn’t see happen to anyone else. The two white couples who arrived after us were helped immediately, while we were ignored and dismissed. My boyfriend is a darker complexion, and it’s hard not to feel like the way we were treated was racially motivated. The staff’s tone was passive-aggressive and cold, and the difference in service was painfully obvious. We felt so unwelcome that we asked to have our names removed from the list and left. We ended up going to a burger place down the street instead, where we were treated with basic kindness and respect. We won’t be returning, and I truly hope this place reflects on how they treat customers of color. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity when dining out—especially when they’ve made the effort to support your business. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

The food is wholesome, comfor... read more Rick and Ann’s is iconic in the Claremont neighborhood. Coming here is like being the guest an old friend who is a very good cook! The food is wholesome, comforting and consistently delicious. The menu is thoughtful and interesting. The atmosphere uplifting with indoor and outdoor dining. How lucky are we to have such a wonderful gourmet breakfast/brunch experience. We are grateful for everything the owners have done for our community, and Ann in particular, for nourishing and bringing joy to the community and for sticking it out during Covid and beyond. I sure hope that some lucky restauranteur can continue in the legacy that is Rick and Ann’s. There is a following for sure! Eggs were cooked perfect: not overcooked like most brkfst places. Others had the orange cardamom French toast: soft and not overly sweet; the cornbread pancakes; and the special surf and turf scramble with bay shrimp, bacon, and green chilies. Around $12-15 per person, but friendly service, great food, and a great location makes it worth it.

Is located next to the Claremont Hotel in the beautiful part of Berkeley, rick ann's was a bit of a... and as the low-cold substage w/o a car, a trip here was a... read more Is located next to the Claremont Hotel in the beautiful part of Berkeley, rick ann's was a bit of a... and as the low-cold substage w/o a car, a trip here was a special treat. it is a number of years since I have eaten here, but I remember that it is very popular as a brunch target, and I cannot imagine much has changed. waiting could be anywhere from 15-60 minutes, and parking is terrible... but there was always a lot waiting to eat here. rick ann’s is probably one of the best brunching places you can find in berkeley.
