Was Melissa Quilter at Kiku Sushi a mag?
Kiku Sushi is now my favorite restaurant in Berkeley! Fish so fresh that it's as delectable as any I've had anywhere. Our family has been here a handful of times now, and it just keeps getting better and better...we'll be back next week! : View all feedback.
What Em M dislikes about Kiku Sushi:
Worst sushi place I've ever been. Seasonal green salad was raw kale, dressing was a sesame dressing with too much garlic. Order the negi Toro and they didn't have green onions! Then the bill was $47, gave $60 and he just assumed the rest was his tip! SMH View all feedback.
So disappointed to not find good salmon skin rolls anywhere in the east bay. This was the worst yet. So bummed I wasted my money. The skin was not grilled nor julienned. Big fat hunk of cold skin with way to much meat attached. Making the roll unreasonably large. Not a nice cone shaped roll that fits in your mouth. None to fresh and the California roll wasn't any better. Update to be fair. Called the restaurant to express my displeasure and they refunded my money completely.
Neighborhood sushi place that the locals obviously like, but I wonder if they know that this place does not serve genuine Japanese food. We ordered the chirashi and by the look of the sloppy cuts of fish, the chef could've been using a hatchet. Since Kiku appears to be a family-owned restaurant, I will not completely trash it, but I don't think I'll be returning. BB
I want to like this place so bad because it is convenient and local but it's just laking flavor in my opinion and overpriced. Two people eating over $100 is a lot. I understand that Gilman is expensive but for the price I was hoping better quality. The bento box chicken was good the first time I ordered and the next time it was dry. I've tried a few vegan sushi rolls and the flavors didn't mesh well together for me. Japanese pickles were just ok. The staff is very nice and service is timely. I like the interior and it looks clean. About the only thing I liked was the gyoza and tempura when it came to menu items.

Stopped by before a visit to the nursery. Had heard of this place from Check Please Bay Area too. The CalBear roll was soooo good. Not your typical roll. Sweet and savory in one bite. We also had the poke roll which was really nice and not too spicy. Our server was really friendly. Great tea and the restrooms super clean. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
