The door was unlocked, the sign said open, and there were people inside... read more About two weeks ago, I took my family to Iscream for ice cream just before closing time. The door was unlocked, the sign said open, and there were people inside—friends of ours—so we went in and waited our turn. It wasn’t until we were being served that I noticed the two employees looked clearly frustrated and ready to leave. We moved as quickly as possible, but once our order was already being prepared, we were told they had technically closed. If we had been informed of this when we arrived, we would have left without any complaint. After paying, I noticed my friend, who had ordered the same thing, received a noticeably larger portion. I had ordered two scoops in a cup, thinking it would be faster than a cone, but what I got was significantly less than usual. When I pointed this out, the young man responded with, “I’m in a hurry, we’re about to close,” and the woman added, “We’re closed.” I asked, “Why does that matter? Should my portion be smaller just because I’m the last customer?” Am I getting less for the same price? To his credit, the employee did offer to add more, but by then I was already upset and left trying to stay calm. The ice cream itself is fantastic, but it shouldn’t matter if I’m the first or last customer—I deserve what I paid for. If I hadn’t noticed the difference, I would have been shortchanged. The more I thought about it, the more frustrated I became. It felt unprofessional and dismissive. That said, the ice cream is excellent. I just hope management reminds staff to either close the store clearly at the posted time or treat every customer with the same respect, whether it’s midday or right before closing.
