Chang Luong - Berkeley
Chang Luong
Description
This restaurant offers a unique dining experience with impressive northeast Chinese cuisine, highly praised for its authentic flavors and quality ingredients, some sourced directly from the owner's garden. However, the ambiance is frequently described as uninviting, and service can be eccentric, with a single staff member managing both cooking and serving. While some customers appreciate the fast service and friendliness, others raise concerns about hygiene and the owner's attitude. Despite polarizing reviews, the food consistently earns high marks, making it a hidden gem for those willing to embrace its quirks.

The food here is absolutely delicious! I visit this restaurant quite frequently, and I particularly love the Guobao Pork. There's just one owner, and I've heard many people describe him as having a bad attitude, being aggressive, and offering poor service. However, I don't mind at all! He’s not really mean; it’s just his personality. I even took the initiative to strike up a conversation with him, and I found him to be very honest! The food is just so good that I believe many customers will continue returning, even if they aren't fond of the service.
The atmosphere is quite uninviting, and I'm concerned about the hygiene standards. The prices for vegetables are unreasonably high, and they only accept cash. I don’t think it’s worth a visit.
The man managing the restaurant is very friendly! The atmosphere feels genuine, and the portion sizes are generous at reasonable prices!
