You just have to know what you're doing, call ahead let them know the day before so they can have some extra salads made for you. This is not a sit-down cafe this is the name of the business. They are located on San Pablo, there is street parking, you can knock on the door but if you actually want to reach the fellow you need to call him. What Antoinette Czerwinski doesn't like about Cafe Leila:
I've been buying and enjoying your Burmese Tea Salad at Berkeley Bowl until recently. The last two salads that I bought were so hot that they were almost inedible. The last time I bought the salad, I thought it was just that someone didn't mix the ingredients very well, but this time the salad was even hotter. When you first had your salad at Berkeley Bowl, we were regular buyers, not any more. You've lost a regular... View all feedback.
I wish you'd deliver either a lot more of the ginger tea salads or deliver a lot more often since my Safeway/Andronicos is always running out before I can get there! I live on this salad, even like how they've streamlined the lime-fish sauce so the jalapenos are little chips distributing their goodness in the sauce. Please please please, if you read this Cafe Karla, I need your salads in more places and in sufficient quantity so when i do my weekly shopping, I can almost be guaranteed to score a couple boxes (it's rude of me to eat my salad when my significant other doesn't get one) every time I go to the store.

So so so delicious. Cannot recommend enough. I honestly drive to Berkeley from the Peninsula just to get some. Obviously, fermented tea leaves aren't everyone's cup of tea (ha but if you enjoy fermented foods and garlicky foods Cafe Karla will hit the spot every time. Update: I went again with my mother and even though she asked too many questions everyone was really nice and helpful :

They are located on San Pablo, there is street parking, you can knock on the door but if you actually want to reach the fellow you need to call him. I got the impression that he stayed a couple blocks away and he just drives over to meet me there and I get like eight salads at a time from him and stock my fridge. Right now they are $5 a pop and $10 in the store. You can figure out for yourself if that's a good deal
