Honestly, the pastries at this restaurant did not live up to the hype. The fillings of the pie and sausage roll were lacking in flavor and the pastry itself was disappointing.
This is a rural bakery that offers typical baked goods. Don't expect anything fancy. The pie was decent, but nothing exceptional.
When a local bakery can expand into successful franchises at two other locations, it is a clear indication of the high quality and popularity of a place like Beechworth.
We ordered the Ned Kelly Pie, Smokey Pork Bourbon Pie, Beesting, and a Brownie. The bakery gave us a free tea bag and instant coffee. It was delightful to sit on the balcony upstairs, enjoying the delicious food and the view of the town with its autumn colors. We arrived on a public holiday and the shop was very busy, but the wait was worth it. The location is fantastic, right in the center of the historic town. We also grabbed a fruit loaf to enjoy as breakfast for the next few days of our travels.
Had an excellent steak pie for $5 here, and the coffee is also fairly cheap and great quality. Overall was cheaply priced compared to the cities. I also had my order delivered quickly, in spite of the bakery being totally packed out.<br/ <br/ There is a very good ambience in this place, which probably sets this place apart from most other eateries around it. Scattered throughout the place are historic memorabilia e.g. Ned Kelly stands and figurines.
