And patronizing service. We were condoned that we are not from mainland europe and we aren't aware of the restaurant habits since we wanted to order a starter and a main course for two people. Later we were asked if we knew how to eat fondue which: dipping bread crumbs in molten cheese.

The second time, we had not booked and asked if there... read more We ate for the first time in this restaurant, on the ground floor, where the servers were super friendly. The second time, we had not booked and asked if there was still a table for two. The waiter motions for us to follow him upstairs and places us at a table for 4 people. The second server then tells us that two other customers may come and sit at the same table as us. We politely responded that we don't necessarily want to be sitting at the same table with people we don't know. The waiter replied: “Have you made a reservation? No ! You can therefore leave the table if it does not suit you, other customers will take your place. » What a way to talk to customers…. In short, we stayed and the food was good but the behavior of the waiter needs to be reviewed!

Tatare, Lamm, Rösti und Falsc... read more Unser Besuch im Schnabel war rundum erfüllend. Die Gerichte waren zünftig zubereitet und wurden mit viel Elan und Charme serviert. Tatare, Lamm, Rösti und Falsche Schnecken schmeckten sehr gut, der Hauswein war ein Genuss. Es ist keine leichte Küche, aber eine tolle Erfahrung für einen Altstadtromantiker.

Es w... read more Das ursprüngliche Menu, das ich wollte gabs erst nicht, dann kam was, was man sonst wo in besserer Qualität findet. Das Schnitzel war kein Riesenschnitzel. Es war ein gewöhnliches Schnitzel, welches mit Hilfe eines Schmetterlingschnitts vergrössert wurde. Allerdings wird es so auch dünner. Somit war es zäh und die Pommes waren latschig. Nicht empfehlenswert.

Die Qualität und Sorgsamkeit hat in den letzten 3 Jahren kontinuierlich abgenommen. Der "Renner" des Hauses, die falschen Schnecken und vor allem die Saucen sind nicht mehr so top wie auch schon. Nicht einmal, seit einigen Besuchen nicht mehr. Originalität in der Auswahl der Mittagsmenuekarte ist verflogen. Bedienung wie immer aufmerksam und amüsant.

Everything was very good and enjoyed by all Staff was very accommodating and quickly set up table after confusion about reservation that illustrated the point that recovery is everything! I would not hesitate to return

We arrived, and the staff hauled their final table out... read more We had a reservation for 8 at 8pm. The platz was filled with people enjoyed the Fastnacht Marching Bands. We arrived, and the staff hauled their final table out and set it up for us. They noted that if they had preset the table, someone else would have wanted it! Clever, huh? The evening was terrific.

The waiter nodded and when our food came it had a thin layer of white meat, with bacon and liquid cheese. When I came to pay the bill it was more expensive than expected. I was informed the chicken dish was a lunchtime special and we had had a pork dish!! When I complained they just repeated chicken was only at lunchtime.

I... read more We are in Basel for 3 days. As we complete our final afternoon we decided to try the restaurant identified by a tour guide as a place where her friend worked. It was in a lovely and quite neighborhood and was described as our guide’s favorite. We took her up in the offer. But knowing it would be a heavier meal than we prefer at night we opted for the early afternoon fare. We arrived at 1:30 pm to a wonderful wood paneled establishment that spoke of a long tradition. Steps (1/2 floor) were required to enter the dining room. We sat at an 8 person table— hourglass in shape and uniquely designed to break apart into 3 smaller tables. The waitress advised that English menus were available. The wine by the glass choices are ample— as are the cocktails. The waitstaff was attentive and responsive. They spoke good English, making placement of our order easy. My wife ordered the Onion Soup—maybe the best flavored broth with tender onions and a light amount of cheese and bread atop the soup. For her entree she ordered the appetizer Asparagus Ravioli. This was an amazing dish and fortunate for me, she left 1 1/2 ravioli on her plate. I will attest to the splendor of this dish. The ravioli was perfectly prepared with a filling and sauce that cried out “ delicious “. If there was any limitation to the dish it would be a slight shortage of asparagus—but that could be due to its consumption before I was passed the dish. Fortunately, I had some in reserve from my plate. An aside, and one worth noting, was the recommendation from the waiter that my wife’s last bites be shared by me! In all my experiences of dining, this invitation was unique and greatly appreciated. It demonstrated a commitment to the food and its quality. I opted for the Salmon with white and green asparagus in Hollandaise Sauce. First, the meal was beautifully plated. The white and green asparagus were a visual temptation. Each of the 6 stalks were large, tender and mouth watering. A little Hollandaise Sauce added just the right touch. I now know why the Black Forest Farmers and farm workers who plant and tend the asparagus fields do so with such care and attention. The salmon was fresh and finished to a perfect caramelization. I loved the Hollandaise Sauce. It was perfectly flavored and served in a small serving dish on the plate so I could apply it to my own specification. A caution for travelers. The restaurant, like many, closes at 2 pm. The staff was turning away would-be customers at 1:45. Get your seat by 1:30 to assure your seat at a truly remarkable Basel, Switzerland dining adventure.
