With no competition it would easy for the Hotel post to sit back on its laurels, but this is not the case. The menu is extensive offer the day menu (2 courses) for around SFr20 (May 2014).Sitting outside was easy as there is plenty of shade. The place was quite busy given that there was only one coach visiting the Kloster. I imagine in summer and on Feast Days it could be very difficult to get a table. The food was well presented and well cooked. We each chose differently and all dishes were enjoyed. The service is a little surly and brusque but then this is Switzerland. I'd happily eat there again.

We've not stayed at the hotel, so I can't say anything about the rooms, but we've dined there countless times, the most recent time last week. We often go there when we're staying in Switzerland (part of every year my husband is Swiss). This place has many things going for it. The restaurant offers traditional Swiss food, and a good variety of it at prices that seem really reasonable for Switzerland. The waitresses are extremly friendly and attentive, and serivce is prompt. The restaurant consists of the main, fairly small section (about six tables), as well as a dining hall for the hotel guests. There are also seasonal dishes. In the summer, there's outdoor seating in the yard under large chestnut trees, and barbecue dinners are offered as well as a nice salad bar and of course ice cream. The public parking lot outside is not for free, but the restaurant has its own parking lot not really large beside the building. You need to drive to the very end of the parking lot past the last spaces, almsot onto the forecouirt of the monastery church, then turn right through wrought iron gates into the walled yard of the Post. (then large parking lot at the entrance of the village is also free and a mere five minutes' walk from the restaurant). This restaurant makes a fantastic stop before or after visits to several nearby attractions: first and foremost the monastery and its church, the walk up past the village and along the edge of the woods to the little chapel, or a slightly longer walk to the old castle of Rotberg, now a youth hostel or just a walk in the woods all around. If you just want the countryside and the restaurant, avoid Catholic holidays, as the place is then simply packed and there's no parking for your car left, nor a chair to sit on at the restaurant.

So well located! So beautiful place, however they have such big problems in the service and the food is the standard that not even "fresh "Is My third time, and my last If I don 't eat pizza and drink a beer. The first one, nobody was there, the we stop for a cake, it came one turned, I should ask for a new one.The second time was better, we ask for flammen kuchen (kind of pizza) and a beer, can not be wrong. The third one, a disaster. A hot summer evening, plenty of people juat waiting. We order a MariaStein variety of cheeses and charcuterie and a brochettes with veggies. We have to order two times drinks before the simple plates came (20min waiting) the quality was so cheap (but not the prices) that we make an effort to overcome out frustration.

After visiting the church Grotte, we decided to have lunch from this restaurant. It was around 1:45 pm. From the beginning onwards, we experienced a negligence from the service people side. After showing us a table to sit, it went literally 10-15 minutes before somebody gave us a menu card. In between somebody asked if we were there to eat or have icecream. We said to eat then later may be ice cream. He gave us a weird smile/look and went. Then another person gave us just ONE menu card for ice cream even though we were 2 people. We didn't get any lunch menu card. At this point, we decided not to have lunch from here but only to have ice cream. We ordered an Eiskaffee Fruit salad. It took almost 15-20 minutes to bring the items. I noticed that I didn't get a straw or a slice of orange-deko compared to other guests who were having the same Eiskaffee. We really felt treated like last-priority there. No idea what their problem was. The service was more keen to attend to the older Swiss guests. Our whole sunday mood was ruined by this incident. We will never set a foot again in this restaurant, that's for sure!
