Mezzaluna Willits - BASALT
Mezzaluna Willits
Description
In the Aspen area, this cozy, family-friendly spot earns praise for standout pizzas, pasta and a lively bar with a solid wine list—ideal for date nights, families and après-ski crowds. Staff are frequently warm and attentive, and menu highlights include mushroom pizza, linguine with mushrooms and short-rib ravioli. However, experiences are inconsistent: some guests report undercooked or low-quality dishes, tough meat, occasional poor service and high prices. Limited or no parking is a recurring downside, so dining here can be a hit-or-miss experience.

Feedback
I have been visiting Mez for almost 20 years, and I've built a good rapport with the staff. The food is consistently excellent.
I had chicken parmigiana with spaghetti, and I don't understand why so many restaurants in the U.S. ruin good pasta by drowning it in excessive tomato sauce. To make a delicious pasta, you only need about a third of the sauce that's typically served here. Additionally, the chicken was tough and not tender at all. My Italian wife would have been heartbroken to see this dish prepared so poorly.
I hope this message finds you well. As someone who has been making pizza with an Ooni pizza oven for years, I wanted to take a moment to share my experience at your restaurant. Unfortunately, the pizza dough I purchased was extremely disappointing—perhaps the worst I've ever worked with. I noticed that many of your other reviews present a different picture, which makes me wonder what the in-person experience might be like if this is how you handle online feedback. While I can appreciate that the food in the valley is generally decent, especially compared to places like Aspen, I was truly hoping for better with the dough. When I ordered, I was told it needed to be prepared, and I paid $30 for four dough balls with the expectation that they would be of good quality, especially considering how incredible your pizzas look. I returned to my campsite excited to impress my friends, but as I started working with the dough, I quickly realized I had made a mistake. It felt more like a mixture of just flour and water, lacking any fermentation. It was disheartening to see that what I received was far from the advertised “homemade dough.” My friends were let down, and I felt quite foolish, having spent $30 on something that didn't meet expectations. I truly love supporting local businesses, and as a Colorado native, I cherish the valley's offerings. However, I must say that this experience left me feeling quite disappointed. I hope you take this feedback to heart, as I believe there’s potential for improvement. Wishing you all the best, [Your Name]
Here's a Google review for Mezzo Luna: I recently dined at Mezzaluna, and it was a fantastic experience! The drinks were fun and delicious, and they have a very nice wine list. The pizza is out of this world! It's a great place for friends and families; we brought our kids, and they enjoyed every bite of their chicken fettuccine. We indulged in delicious pizza and pasta as well. I highly recommend this restaurant! Food: 5
