Description

A restaurant in west Cork received mixed reviews, with some customers praising the amazing food while others criticized the service. Despite some mishaps with the staff, the vegetarian pasta was said to be heavy, but the lamb shank was rated highly. The seafood chowder was highlighted as a standout dish, even though the service was described as unique and intrusive. Additionally, the owner's exceptional service and the delicious local lobster were highlighted by another patron. Visitors were advised to avoid the burger and fish dishes, but the fish and chips received rave reviews for the fresh, crispy batter. Overall, the establishment was recommended for fresh seafood and a cozy, authentic Irish pub experience, with some customers expressing gratitude for their experiences.

We weren’t sure whether to go in at first because of some mixed reviews, but we’re really glad we did. The owner greeted us outside and was so friendly that we decided to give it a try, and it turned out to be a great choice. We were a big group with some older people and he kindly opened a quieter dining room for us in Jack’s Bar, away from the main bar area, which made everything much more comfortable. It also seems that Jack’s Bar and The Lough Avoul are under the same ownership. The food was delicious, the portions were generous and the prices very reasonable, and the service was warm and attentive throughout. Overall a really lovely experience, we would definitely come back and would happily recommend it to anyone visiting Glengarriff!

We were approached by the owner outside the restaurant and lured inside. However, the menu actually appealed to us, so we decided to go in and sat outside. The food, we had the catch of the day, was delicious. The service from the owner's wife seemed a bit rushed and odd at first, as our order was taken quite quickly. On the plus side, she was friendly later on and checked in to make sure everything was alright. The other waitress, on the other hand, was very nice. Unfortunately, the owner himself came across as rather unfriendly and somewhat gruff. As mentioned in other reviews, he approaches many passersby trying to persuade them to come inside. After he drove off, however, we were able to enjoy our meal in peace. It was somewhat surprising that only cash payments were accepted, even though a card reader was clearly visible in the restaurant. Overall, the food was very good and the experience pleasant. We would have had an even better impression if it weren't for the owner's somewhat unusual manner.
