The range of opinions captures the essence of this distinctive cafe – you'll either adore it or despise it. We found it to be a delightful throwback in time. The tea was superb, with all four of us enjoying a big pot. Three members of our group opted for the apple crumble (reminiscent of a homemade treat), while I chose the whisky cake, which was moist and subtly flavored with whisky. Ohh dear... Peter is a nice chap, and the cafe is quaint... and the location is superb. The magic breaks down when it comes to hygiene. The coffee cup I had was cracked on the inside, and the cracks were filthy. This was beaten by the milkjug... also cracked on the inside, and the cracks were filthy... but the 'high-tide ' rings inside the jug put me off completely. Fantastic service and a lovely man with great food and great history of the area and his cafe. A real treat. Would love to go back
Great home made cake and plenty of it. The atmosphere is great, very individual and a friendly welcome.
We had coffee and the rhubarb/apple crumble and it was delicious! The place has a relaxed, quirky vibe, with antiques and classical music playing in the background.
The decor may be quirky but there is nothing quirky about the baking. Everything is home baked. If you want to know what your granny's baking tasted like, this is the place to find out.

Sad... applying a few basic hygiene procedures, and it would be a great cafe. g
