What User dislikes about Galu Grill:
Tried Galu for a catch up with the girls. Would definitely recommend for special occasions there were a couple of celebrations whilst we were there. A mid week fixed menu would be nice. View all feedback.
This is a amazing contemporary restruantA real show off place to impress your friends.
I visited my elderly Mum today, she suggested going to the Derby Arms for a roast dinner as she'd eaten there recently with my sister. However they were fully booked, so I looked online and found Galu. The reviews were great and my Mum has only ever heard good things from friends and neighbours. So I called and booked for 12:45 Sunday 21st Jan 2024. We were both pleasantly surprised to see roast dinners on the menu ... Mum order lamb and I ordered beef part of their set menu. When the dinners arrived, you could see straight away that the lamb was Very Fatty (not even crispy) when my my tried eating it, it was both tough and chewy! As for the beef, this was cooked ok and edible, although I asked for the beef to be medium, but it was more well done. The waiter came over to ask if the meal was ok, I highlighted how the lamb was... the manager then came over and offered my Mum a slice of beef to compensate, bearing in mind she ordered lamb. Mum subsequently found that some of her roast potatoes were hard inside! I finished my meal, but could see Mum really didn't enjoy hers leaving a substantial amount on her plate, and having tried her lamb it really was inedible! We were then offered a full list of desserts rather than the set menu, having chocolate brownie and creme brûlée (both were gorgeous) When the bill arrived, I was hoping they would have somehow made amends, but alas no ... as Mum doesn't like to cause a fuss and it was her treat, I decided not to say anything, although the staff manager could tell we weren't happy. Having come from East Sussex for the day and regularly have great Sunday roasts in local pubs, I was hoping for something special in this restaurant, but sadly that wasn't the case. In fact it's probably one of the worst roast dinners I've had in a long time. I very much doubt we'll return ...
Galu never disappoints. Amazing food cook in plain sight, a great menu catering for all tastes, friendly staff. We love this local family restaurant and on Tuesday it’s steak night and that gives you delicious steaks at half price. We love it
I came here for dinner last night, fantastic tasting food and great portion sizes. I had the halloumi, the Galu burger and the vanilla panna cotta. The atmosphere was great, and I would recommend booking a table in advance as the venue was busy. The staff were attentive and polite, and couldn’t do more for you. They also do half price steaks on a Tuesday The only downside I would comment on, is the menu being stapled bits of paper and didn’t look very professional.
*update I actually visited this restaurant as a child, and found out it was always serving unique Cyprus Italian platters! Grandparents convinced me the food back then was much better than my most recent experience. Sharing an old photo! Below average and overpriced. Menu was paper stapled together; just seems lazy. Mediterranean or Italian? Staff were friendly enough and accommodating. However, I felt that there is much better quality and value for money elsewhere.
