Absolutely amazing Afghan cuisine! The owner, who also serves as the chef and host, is incredibly welcoming, and the food is fresh and delicious.
This charming little restaurant offers delicious Afghan cuisine. The food is both flavorful and comforting. Vegetarian dishes can easily be made vegan by simply omitting the yogurt sauce. They also have a great selection of teas. The owner is warm and welcoming, making for a pleasant dining experience.
Spring Cafe is a quaint little spot that can easily be overlooked, despite its vibrant colors. However, it’s definitely worth seeking out. This tiny establishment feels like a charming piece of small-town Europe, standing in stark contrast to the rest of Hampden. Here, the sole staff member is not just the owner but also the chef, which adds a personal touch to the meals. Each dish is crafted with care, cooked slowly throughout the day. The menu may be limited, but it includes a few vegetarian options that can easily be made vegan by omitting yogurt. The offerings mainly feature slow-roasted pumpkin and eggplant. I opted for the eggplant, which was delightfully creamy and rich. The familiar Middle Eastern spices were enhanced with unique touches of black pepper and chili oil, making the dish truly memorable.
This tiny eatery, hidden among the shops and restaurants of The Avenue in Hampden, offers delicious, healthy food in a warm and cozy setting. Their website states, We treat you not as a customer, but as family. Most of the menu is vegetarian or vegan or can easily be veganized. The two items I tried were Kabul Chaynaki, a hearty vegetable and chickpea stew, and Sabzi, a mildly spiced spinach dish. Both were flavorful and satisfying! All entrees come with a two pieces of Afghan bread. The ambiance is much like a teahouse, and the menu features a number of exotic teas, such as Butterfly Pea Flower.
