Like many successful restaurants, Cafe Hon faced some challenges along the way. Much of the criticism seemed more like sour grapes from a few locals upset about the use of the term "Hon." However, after a visit from Gordon Ramsay and a bit of a makeover, things transformed for the better. Thankfully, all the beloved elements remained, including their locally made cakes and pies, the hearty meatloaf, and that delightful, kitten-friendly salad dressing. While the menu occasionally changes, the quality consistently remains high. Cafe Hon isn’t a fancy establishment, nor does it pretend to be. It's a place where food is wonderfully simple, offering a solid variety for everyone. The restaurant celebrates the iconic Blue Crab in several dishes, including a tangy crab dip and their fluffy crab soup served in cups or bowls. The burgers are also creatively prepared. I must commend their barbecue wings, which are meaty, crispy on the outside, and tender inside—simply delicious! The desserts are exquisite, often made with seasonal fruits. If you're lucky enough to visit in May, don’t miss out on the strawberry cake—get a slice quickly before it disappears! And if you indulge a bit too much, the friendly servers are more than willing to box up a slice of dessert for you to take home, ensuring that your delightful experience lingers on. The excitement continues every Friday with $1 oysters, freshly shucked. If you're in no rush, you can stop by the bar next door for live music or karaoke. I’m always happy to recommend this place to out-of-town guests and friends because I know they strive for consistency and aim to please. They genuinely make everyone feel welcome and satisfied. What more could you ask for? Well, maybe just a bottle of that cruelty-free dressing to bring home!
You guys really saved my family's brunch this morning! Such amazing, accommodating, patient service and plate licking DELISH food. Can't wait to come back again!
I had my reservations initially due to some negative online reviews, but I can confidently say they are completely unfounded. The food here is absolutely outstanding! I ordered the Meatloaf dinner, and it was genuinely the best I’ve ever had. The portion size was generous as well, making it a great value for anyone looking for a satisfying meal. I wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone in search of delicious food with a true Baltimore vibe.
I dropped by after taking my son to Hopkins today. I ordered the Big Bay Club, and all I can say is Wow! It's a fantastic combination of crab cake, shrimp salad, and bacon, and it's honestly the best sandwich I've ever had—yes, the best. The service was great, and the owner was very friendly. As Arnold Schwarzenegger would say, "I'll be back." - Andre
