Description

Tucked away in Axminster, this café offers a mixed bag of experiences for diners. While some patrons rave about the delicious food and friendly service, others express disappointment over high prices and underwhelming dishes, such as bland soups and lackluster coffee. The ambiance is inviting, with a cozy atmosphere and ample parking, making it a potential stop for those seeking a light meal or a coffee break. However, concerns about value for money have led some customers to seek alternatives nearby. Overall, it presents itself as a charming yet inconsistent spot worth exploring if you’re in the area.

The fish finger sandwiches, avocado and scrambled egg, and burger were all exceptional, as were the milkshakes and fries. Though slightly pricey, the quality justifies the cost. The service was prompt and welcoming.

I also asked for tap water with my order but was directed to a water dispenser where I had to fill my own glass, which was difficult to do while holding my 3-month-old baby. The cafe wasn't very busy yet my experience left me feeling like I had been overcharged. Next time, I will make the longer drive to Seaton Junction for the source of the coffee or to the Grazing Cow for a locally sourced breakfast, as the quality and value for money seem to be better there compared to this cafe. It's disappointing that I won't be returning to support this local business.

Today, while visiting Axminster, we stumbled upon this Café. We decided to have a cooked breakfast and try the roasted mushrooms, and I must say, both dishes were excellent. I highly recommend this Café.

We dropped in here for lunch and opted for the soup of the day, Stilton and Broccoli. At 6 GPD we thought it quite expensive compared to other places we have visited. When it eventually arrived we were very disappointed. The soup was thin and...watery served with dry, sliced granary bread. There was a slight taste of Stilton but of the Broccoli no taste and no sign their were some greyish specks floating about, but nothing green and vibrant. It was like a gruel which has been watered down and boiled to death. It did not look or taste as if it had been freshly made that day, but to be fair there was nothing to say it had been. But at the price we would expect better!

We stumbled into here wanting a change to the River cafe. Initially it looks fairly bland and uninvitibg but we stuck with it and are glad we did. The food choice and quality was excellent and just right for lunch. Will certainly be going there...again.
