This restaurant seems to be a favorite among locals. It's just a short walk from South Congress, and while the exterior might look a bit worn, don’t let that put you off. The pork fajitas and flautas were absolutely fantastic. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Austin!
I always enjoy the atmosphere at this restaurant. The vegetables served with the salsa are incredible. It’s a wonderful local treasure with fantastic food!
I always enjoy visiting this restaurant. It still captures the authentic South Austin atmosphere, which is becoming increasingly hard to find. The frozen margaritas are amazing, but what really draws me in is the salsa bar with escabeche. I always order the enchiladas Doña Clara, and they've never let me down. The other menu items are just as dependable. The tortillas are made in-house, which is a must-have for me in a good Mexican restaurant. Ignore the one-star reviews; this place has a delightful ambiance and truly delicious food. If you're looking to experience that unique charm that originally made Austin so attractive, you should definitely check it out.
The food at this restaurant is incredible! Although the atmosphere has a somewhat rough vibe, don't be deterred from visiting. I've given it a lower rating mainly because the location isn't the most convenient and the decor could use some modernization. However, the food is truly the best Tex-Mex I've ever had!
I ordered flautas—one chicken, one beef, and one pork. The pork was excellent, the chicken lacked a bit of flavor, and the ground beef was the least impressive. I also had the light brown beans, which were somewhat bland. My husband tried the mole enchiladas and enjoyed them, though he mentioned the mole had a strong taste dominated by cinnamon and clove. On the plus side, the fresh salsa served with the chips was delicious. Overall, it was a good experience.
