El Arroyo is a popular spot in Austin known for its iconic sign and unique merch. The outdoor seating vibes are great, especially on a beautiful day. However, the food can be hit or miss. Some dishes like the burrito may lack in meat and be too spicy for some, but other options like the fajitas or enchiladas are delicious. The margaritas are strong but pricey. Service can vary, with some guests having positive experiences with attentive waitstaff, while others have mentioned issues with drink refills. The atmosphere is eclectic and authentic, making it a must-visit spot for those in Austin. If you're a fan of spicy food and quirky charm, El Arroyo is worth a visit.
As for prices, it's on the higher side; a regular-sized (or large) margarita costs $11, but they are strong and delicious. A side of sour cream is an extra $1. Our bill for two dinners and two margaritas came to $55. I’m glad I visited to see the famous sign and can say I’ve experienced it, but if I lived in Austin, I probably wouldn't return frequently. Pros: iconic sign, merchandise, pleasant atmosphere, tasty margaritas Cons: spicy (unless you enjoy it), a bit pricey.
This is a very small restaurant, but the food is generally quite good. However, I wouldn't suggest ordering the burrito; it contains very little meat—probably only 3 or 4 ounces at most—and is mostly packed with tomatoes and a bit of lettuce, which makes it somewhat deceptive in terms of size. On a positive note, the beans are excellent, and the chips and queso are tasty. The fajita tacos are also enjoyable, but unfortunately, they don’t come with lime.
The food was outstanding. However, our server was not very attentive when it came to refilling our drinks and forgot to bring us the bill. That said, our primary focus was the food, which definitely met our expectations—it was fantastic. The bacon-wrapped jalapeño poppers stuffed with chicken and cheese were particularly well made, and I would highly recommend that dish. The El Arroyo special was also quite impressive.
This restaurant has a truly authentic vibe. The enchiladas were excellent, and the fajitas were just as good. I highly recommend dining outdoors on a lovely evening, as the atmosphere was fantastic. Additionally, it offered great value for the amount of food you receive!
The salsa and chips were delicious, and the nachos were spot on. The tortilla soup was generously packed with chicken, while the chicken enchilada plate was served nice and hot. I didn’t hear any comments about the zucchini plate, but they finished everything except for the black beans. The guacamole salad had a spicy kick from the jalapeños, and the meat tacos were perfectly crispy. We enjoyed reading some of the amusing signs around the restaurant. They even sell books that compile their previously posted signs. Interestingly, anyone can submit a sign to the restaurant. Just a reminder, not all chickens can be featured on the Arroyo menu!
