Description

Panera in Augusta, ME, consistently delights with its friendly staff and delicious food, though recent visits reveal some quality inconsistencies, particularly with ingredients. While many patrons appreciate the cozy atmosphere and excellent service, complaints have emerged regarding forgotten ingredients and rising prices. Additionally, the ordering process could benefit from more efficiency, as patrons have noted the inconvenience of ordering food and drinks separately. Despite these drawbacks, loyal customers continue to enjoy the menu offerings and the welcoming environment, making it a beloved stop for many in the area.

I ordered Chicken Noodle Soup and bread during my visit. Ashley, the cashier, was incredibly kind and polite. Unfortunately, the staff member who handled my order did not share the same demeanor. When my order was ready, she called out my name in a loud voice and practically tossed my order to me, displaying an angry expression and completely ignoring my presence. Since it was my first time at this restaurant, I decided to overlook this behavior, assuming she might have been having a tough day. However, when I tasted the food, I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was! Thank you, Ashley, for being so positive, friendly, and courteous. I will definitely return!

The taste and quality have noticeably worsened. They frequently forget an ingredient or two. They've also become quite lacking in their portions of chicken in the salad, which now tastes bland. I believe I’ll be taking a break for a while.

We faced a significant problem with our two sandwiches, as both had rotten lettuce. It's hard to believe that a restaurant would use such poor-quality ingredients. The lettuce was visibly black and smelled bad. Fortunately, we were dining outside, so I could take one of the sandwiches inside to show the manager. When I did, I was offered either a refund or some Romaine lettuce as a replacement. I had expected a more sincere response, something like, "I'm very sorry; we take pride in our fresh, high-quality ingredients, and this shouldn't have happened. Let us fix this mistake." Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. As I was leaving, I overheard the manager telling another employee to throw away all the lettuce, which at least meant that other customers wouldn't receive the spoiled product.

I went to Panera Bread for lunch with my daughter today. The staff member who took our order was fantastic—I didn’t catch his name, but he was wonderful. Even though it was very busy, he maintained a smile and was incredibly helpful. We both had questions about a few menu items, and he was patient and accommodating. Excellent service, and as always, the food was delicious.

Panera Bread is one of my favorite places, no matter the city. I love it there, but I do have some issues. Sometimes the avocado is completely unripe, other times it’s overripe or black, and occasionally the avocado slices aren’t even peeled—even though I always pay extra for it.
