This was the best avocado toast I've ever had! They offer a wide variety of delicious and nutritious vegan options, along with excellent coffee. The staff is friendly, warm, and very helpful. They also have a great selection of vegan and eco-friendly products, including the delicious cookie dough from Naked Bakes! The location is perfect—central and just a short walk from the river, situated in the artsy part of the... View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Bastion Kitchen:
Staff are happy to check what is vegan and there were several options on the day we visited. I had a delicious soup with sourdough and butter. When I asked if there was a vegan alternative to butter, it was replaced by hummus, which was perfect. I enjoyed a Chia chocolate ball that was particularly delicious as I don't like the coconut in Desserts and it's almost always in protein balls. My husband enjoyed a dahl wit... View all feedback.
They have a lovely beetroot salad and a scrumptious vegan cheese cake! We didn’t know the place had vegan options and I was so glad to have so many options (and delicious desert). The staff is very friendly and the prices are reasonable.
Serves meat but some delicious vegan options available such as a falafel pitta. The staff are knowledgable of veganism and will point you to the vegan items. The vegan pitta comes with falafels, homemade cheese free basil pesto, hummus, beetroot, greens and then either grated carrot or vegan coleslaw. The regular falafel comes with dairy coleslaw. When veganised it is sometimes replaced with grated carrot but occasionally with vegan mayo coleslaw (I think it depends on whether they have it in stock as they also have a small grocery section with lots of vegan items). The soup has also been vegan every time I have visited. I'm not the biggest fan of soups but theirs is doing a great job converting me. They also offer a gf pitta and gf options if you require. There is sometimes a vegan hot dish on the menu but I have never been able to not order the vegan falafel, it's that good. 4 stars is the most we can award non vegan restaurants but their vegan food definitely deserves 5. If you are a vegan in Athlone during the day, this is your lunch sorted.

My husband enjoyed a dahl with rice that was the hot dish of the day and a very impressive chocolate cheesecake. The coffee was also great, it was very busy. Wednesday noon. Many regulars get food and coffee to take.
Found this spot through the app and decided to give it a go while charging the car (Located less than a minutes walk) The food and coffee was perfect and the menu stated that other Vegans options could be prepared on request. Ended up going back for seconds a few days later
The soup was incredibly delicious, paired perfectly with fantastic warm spelt cones. Everything else on the menu looked amazing, and the customers seemed genuinely happy.
