What a find! Our hotel in Leon recommended this fabulous restaurant in the most amazing village of Castrillo de Los Polvazares, only about 6 km from Astorga. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch in the charming walled gardens of this restaurant. With our very little Spanish and the owners 'poco ' English we enjoyed our best meal in Spain so far, the food was superb, especially the duck cooked in Pedro Ximenez . We highly recommend you checking this lovely place!
Excellent cocido, place is cozy, simple, really nice. Service is fast and friendly. A great experience, loved it!
When in twee little Castrillo we always eat at another place, but it was deepest February, and our favorite was closed... so Entrepiedras it was. (I usually avoid places that send touts out to the parking lot or onto the streets. Entrepiedras has a wonderful location in a typically rustic stone farmyard. It apparently sometimes fends off many sticky-fingered customers, as the garden and decor bristle with do not touch! signs, but we were the only diners that day. We ordered stewed duck and Cocido Maragato, the local specialty stew. Portions were huge. Flavor was bland. Service was less-than enthusiastic. The house wine was very good, though, and prices were quite reasonable for a town so tourist-oriented. This is a fine place to come with your bus tour, but if it´s Cocido you´re after, you can do better at many other places in the area.
