We've been going here for years. Large desserts and baked goods that are delicious and visually appealing. The wife loves the mountain éclair and espresso roulade. I recommend the tomato gouda quiche and Swedish creme. The outdoor dining area is nice when the weather allows. The one negative is that parking is a . What Susan F doesn't like about The Well-bred Bakery Café In Biltmore Village:
Stopped in around 12:30 p.m. while visiting Biltmore Village. Ordered an egg and cheese croissant and a pot de crème. I was served a croissant I can only describe as “leathery. The supposedly-scrambled eggs were rubbery, gosh knows how old, and cut into flat rectangles. Cafeteria food. The croissant was astonishingly terrible. Sad, flat, you couldn’t even pull it apart. Not fresh or flaky, in any way. It’s a bakery, for goodness’s sake. I took it back to the counter after one bite. I was honestly offended they served it to me. The good thing was that the staff were very courteous and promptly refunded the croissant with an apology. I took my pot de crème to go, and it was very good, but I wanted lunch for lunch, not dessert. Really threw my whole day off.
Well-Bred has a brunch and lunch menu which, while limited, offers an excellent taste experience. We had the quiche and a sandwich special; both were delicious. Be warned. Their desserts are extremely tempting, and taste every bit as good as they look. Parking: Parking availability depends on the cowd each day. We parked two blocks and walked but it is a very pleasant walk.
Delicious! Loved the quiche! And the little square chocolate truffles are amazing. So is that shortbread! I wish there was a recipe book!!
I'm going to start by explaining that I always enjoy going to the Biltmore, and the service and quality is usually amazing. Enough so that we're passholders for several years now. I had my niece with me this time. We ate at the Village Social, which was new for me. She ordered Mac n Cheese, and a fruit cup. This was the fruit cup. Canned mandarin oranges and a few green grapes. The mac was literally kraft mac, including the powdery clumps that you just can't ever get rid. Don't dumb down your food for kids. They have complex palettes as well. And parents don't appreciate paying for mediocre meals for their kids.
Absolutely amazing pastries and cakes. Get the éclair. It was the best I've ever had. The carrot cake was also to die for. They did forget my coffee and put wayyyy too much nutmeg in it when I did get it 30 minutes later, but you come for the pastries not the coffee. Definitely a must try if you are in town.
