Caballo Tavern

Description

Set just off Highway 187 in Arrey near Caballo Lake and Percha Dam, this rustic old‑west tavern doubles as a liquor store and local hangout. It’s known for cheap, cold beer, a long wooden bar, fireplace, pool table and a covered, dog‑friendly patio. Patrons enjoy the character, TVs for games and occasional live music, but service and cleanliness are inconsistent and the food menu is limited—kitchen closures have left guests without meals. Best for road‑trippers and budget‑minded locals seeking authentic, down‑to‑earth atmosphere.

This place is definitely worth a stop if you're passing through and looking for a drink. We were headed north and needed to find a TV to catch the NBA Finals, but as anyone familiar with this part of the desert knows, options are limited. Then we discovered this gem. While the food selection isn't extensive, they have plenty of cold, affordable beers—our two drinks cost us under $6. The bartender was kind enough to put the game on for us, and the other customers were generally friendly. If you're looking to get a feel for a local hangout when they want to quench their thirst, this is the place to go.

If you like a rustic old west style ' tavern, this is it. The servers are very friendly and attentive and the prices are moderate $3-4.00 for a beer). It is clean, even the restroom, and big enough for lots of people. There 's a fireplace to cuddle around and tables, plus a long, old wooden bar. From I-25 take exit 59 and go east about 2 miles. It 's on the right. Maybe I 'll see you there.

Great place, but tough to find. It's not in Truth or Consequences. It's on Highway 187 in Arrey. It's both a bar and a liquor store. They have a .50 pool table, cheap beer prices, great character, and the bartender we had was great. A hidden gem if want some real local flavor.

Awful experience. The bartender, Kenny or something like that, was incredibly rude—one of the worst I've dealt with in a long time. We managed to get some drinks, but then we were told to leave because the kitchen staff had quit and there was no food available. After that, the bartender just went out back to hang out with a friend. It was obvious he didn’t want to work. I definitely do not recommend this place.
