There’s no pretentiousness or stuffy crowd here, just a warm and inviting vibe. The bartenders are attentive, and I must mention that one of them is particularly easy on the eyes (you know who you are!). Thank you for creating such a welcoming atmosphere and providing excellent service.

The owner personally visited our table and treated us to a complimentary round of welcome shots. The music was lively and enjoyable. The bartender was kind and attentive to our needs. We will certainly be returning!

We've stopped in on busy nights, slow afternoons and everything in between and never once struggled to get service. Bathrooms are clean and overall, the bar is pretty clean as well. Tons of TVs so a great place to watch to a game and they have the NFL ticket and every MLB game as well. Treat the staff with respect and you'll get it in return.

Bla bla bla. The past four reviews are from those that do not appreciate the small town charm of dive bars. These other reviews have no right to partake in commentary on whether they like or dislike this bar as newbies of Ankeny. As far as dive bars go, this is it. Cheap drinks, and bartenders that will chat it up, as long as you show them you are a real person with real problems. Take some time to get to know the crew. They all have their own small town quirks. No matter how big Ankeny gets, Jake 's will always remind you where this city came from. The combination of good deals, great people, and that small town head turning that may or may not occur upon the entrance of an outsider is what makes Jake 's what it is. A five star bar in it 's category of dive bars in Ankeny. Get your nose down to our level and realize no matter how far we go, we always remember where we came from. Once a hawk, always a hawk. Who gives two shits if the bartenders were born and raised here. They love their jobs and love their clientele. Get your heads out of your asses and appreciate a good dive bar when you see one.
