Cantine Fortier - Amqui

Having grown up in Amqui and living overseas for over 40 years, it was a pleasure to revisit Cantine for their renowned Poutine and other delectable dishes. Definitely a stop worth making.

Cantine Fortier is our favourite breakfast stop on the way to Montreal. Situated in Amqui, 1 hour from Matapedia where we reside, Cantine Fortier has the most delicious, reasonable breakfasts. For only .4.50 you get 2 eggs, toast, homefries, and coffee. The restaurant is always spotless, the staff is friendly and locals flock there to savour the food and the ambiance. I highly recommend it!

Located near the Matapedia gorge, this modest restaurant serves up a delicious poutine that is considered a hidden gem. While it may not have much signage outside, it can be found near the McDonald's on the road. The friendly employees provide excellent service and the Galvaude poutine I ordered exceeded my expectations. The gravy was beautifully done and the double-fried fries were a highlight. If you find yourself in the area, I highly recommend stopping by Cantine Fortier, a hidden gem since 1979.

We were recommended this restaurant by family members who live in Amqui, and it was definitely worth the visit. The poutine was excellent and the menu was reasonably priced. The homemade bacon cheeseburgers were also delicious.

Very good for a quick snack. They pass the poutine test with flying colors: it's excellent. The cheese is a standout. Other meals are very good and prices are reasonable. Wifi is a nice touch. Prices are reasonable and service is quick.
