It will not be better than l’ecluse! only wow! I have eaten in restaurants all over the world, and I feel confident to say that this was the best meal I ever had. my wife and I ate incredibly good at our two-week slum week in whole france. in this september, but no one could conquer l’ecluse. you can't miss it when you spend an amboise time! we have recommended to eat at l’ecluse from the owner of the bed and breakfast, in which we were and had also read excellent reviews on the high quality of the restaurant. the place was not disappointed! we tried to go in our second night in the city, and while they were booked in this night, we could get a reservation for the following evening. the restaurant itself has a very elegant interior (the outside terrace was closed by the weather). we were treated very well when we arrived. we were told that the menu is often changed and is assembled with all local products from the region loire valley. we had very happy that arnaud took care of us in this night. he is married to the chef and I think the co-owner, and he was one of the nicest people we've ever met. he radiates positive energy, and the rest of the staff that served us followed his fantastic lead. we have divided a lot to go with a meal of a life. my wife and I had some great local aperitifs to begin the evening, and that was followed by the most creative, imaginative and tasty meals we could ever enjoy. what was so special was that the aromen met every taste bud during the meal, and each ingredient supplemented all the others incredibly well. the taste surpassed even the excellent presentation of every article and that says something! I wish I could remember the names of every teller we ate, but I let some of our pictures lead the conversation. I really liked my atlantic char appetizer that I thought had a sea flavored ice cream with it (again I wish I remembered the exact details). my wife and I both have the cod with tinten fish and I think a few local squash. I never had a better fish dish in my life. my dessert had hazelnut cream and was lovely. we also loved the top-of-the-line cheese plate with generous portions of local goat and cow cheese, and we had all the local Loire Valley wine we could treat, plus some fragrances. what a great meal! this was a unique experience for us that was one of the highlights of our slumber week. l’ecluse was so good that our next trip to France must include a return trip there. make their reservation asap! eat in l’ecluse is that living in its most beautiful!
A good job the weather was as warm as we were on a spot of what would have been muddy grass if it had been wet! very strange, on what felt like a rek, with houses all around. but the tables were... removed! the staff was happy and the service was attentive. it was a pleasant (if strange) setting. the meal was a little different than we expected. I had the squid and muddle to begin, which was very good. but I had the lamb next and it came to what I can only describe as a big spring role: I may not have read the English version of the menu exactly enough pastilla of lamb shoulder and Ros-el-Hanut' and the pastilla' surprised me! it more reduced the effects of the lamb and I felt a little bit short changed by him. On the other hand, my partner loved their main course! good wine list that favors local wee with some very inexpensive bottles. a whole interesting evening with eating a little subduing.
It doesn't get any better than L'Ecluse! Just wow! I've eaten in restaurants all over the world, and I feel confident in saying that this was the best meal I've ever had. My wife and I ate incredibly well on our two-week honeymoon throughout France...this September, but no one could top L'Ecluse. You can't miss it if you're spending any time in Amboise! We got a recommendation to eat at L'Ecluse from the owner of the Bed and Breakfast we were staying at and had also read excellent reviews on the restaurant's high quality. The place did not disappoint! We tried to walk in on our second night in town, and while they were booked that night, we were able to get a reservation for the following evening. The restaurant itself has a very elegant indoor dining area (the outdoor patio was closed due to the weather). We were treated extremely well from the moment we arrived. We were told that the menu changes frequently and is put together using all local products from the Loire Valley region. We were extremely lucky to have Arnaud taking care of us that night. He is married to the head chef and I believe the co-owner, and he was one of the nicest people we've ever met. He radiates positive energy, and the rest of the staff serving us followed his fantastic lead. We shared a lot of laughs to go with a meal of a lifetime. My wife and I had some great local aperitifs to start the evening, and that was followed by the most creative, imaginative, and tasty food we've ever been able to enjoy. What was so special was that the flavors throughout the meal hit every taste bud, and each ingredient complemented all the others incredibly well. The tastes even surpassed the outstanding presentation of each item. And that's saying something! I wish I could remember the name of every dish we ate, but I'll let some of our pictures do the talking. I really liked my Atlantic char appetizer that I think had a sea flavored ice cream with it (again- I wish I remembered the exact details). My wife and I both got the cod dish with squid ink and I believe some local squash. I've never had a better fish dish in my life. My dessert had hazelnut cream and was delightful. We also loved the top-of-the-line cheese plate with generous portions of local goat and cow cheeses, and we had all of the local Loire Valley wine we could handle plus some digestifs. What an amazing meal!!! This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us that was one of the highlights of our honeymoon. L'Ecluse was so good that our next trip to France will have to include a return trip there. So make your reservation ASAP! Eating at L'Ecluse is life at its finest!
A must eat when in an amboise. we've been amboise three times and never eaten here. it was recommended by our hostess and we loved it absolutely. local products and a large wine selection. we will definitely be back when we come. much amboise again! they will not regret it.
A good job the weather was so warm as we were seated on a patch of what would have been muddy grass if it had been wet! Very odd, sitting out on what felt like a rec, with houses all around. Still, the tables were...distanced! The staff were happy people and the service was attentive. It was a pleasant (if odd) setting. The meal was a little different to what we were expecting. I had the squid and mussels to begin, which was very good. However, I had the lamb next and it came in what I can only describe as a large spring roll: I may not have read the English version of the menu closely enough Pastilla of lamb shoulder and ras-el-hanut' and the pastilla' took me by surprise! It rather reduced the impact of the lamb and I felt a little short-changed by it. On the other hand, my partner loved her main course!!! Good wine list favouring local wines with some very reasonably-priced bottles. Overall an interesting evening with the food a little underwhelming.
