Description

Nestled near the breathtaking Langdale Valley, Sticklebarn is a popular stop for hikers seeking sustenance after their outdoor adventures. Passionate about local sourcing, the pub offers a menu that highlights several vegan options, including unique dishes like "peacamole" and satisfying desserts. Each menu item features its carbon footprint, aligning with the sustainability goals of the National Trust. Diners rave about the fresh, well-prepared food, although prices for sides like skin-on fries have drawn some criticism. With a relaxed atmosphere perfect for unwinding after a hike, Sticklebarn is a delightful destination for local fare and eco-conscious dining.

On another walk to Lingmoor, we decided to stop for lunch after spotting some vegan options on the menu. Sticklebarn is committed to using locally sourced products, supporting the local economy, and each dish even displays its CO2e carbon emissions equivalent. We ordered garlic mushrooms and "peacamole" on sourdough toast, along with a side of skin-on fries to share, accompanied by a pint of Bright Storage. The food was excellent—fresh, delicious, and well-cooked. I will definitely be borrowing the "peacamole" idea; it was outstanding. My only complaint was that the skin-on fries were a bit pricey at £3.25, especially given the small portion size. Overall, it was a lovely, quiet place for lunch, and I would certainly return. This review updates my previous one from April 7, 2022.

This is a fantastic spot for hiking enthusiasts, as it is conveniently located near the stunning Longdale Valley, which offers numerous beautiful trails. The atmosphere here is relaxed and casual, making it a great place to unwind after a hike. The food is excellent as well, including some vegan options. I tried the aubergine curry and the vegan brownie, both of which were delicious.

Great location with several clearly marked vegan options on the menu, including vegan ice cream. The restaurant is run by the National Trust, and the staff are friendly. Prices are reasonable, too. I appreciate that they display the CO2 emissions next to each menu item; it might also be worth considering a vegetarian option for some customers!

Revisited Sticklebarn today after doing a gruelling walk. A new menu has more vegan options on so ordered two cauliflower wings with hash browns and fries with Helles lager unfiltered and unfined). The food was fantastic... substantial satisfying and just the ticket. Sticklebarn is owned by the National Trust and is a popular place with walkers, who climb the Langdale Pikes and where we drank a pint after climbing them ourselves a few days earlier. On a separate walk up Lingmoor we called for lunch, after noticing a couple of vegan options on the menu. Sticklebarn are passionate about locally sourced products, with money raised going back into the local economy and each dish displays its carbon emissions equivalent CO2e). We ordered garlic mushrooms and peacamole on sourdough toast, with a side order of skin on fries to share, with a pint of Helle lager each. The food was excellent, fresh, delicious and well cooked and I will be stealing the peacamole idea, which was awesome. The only negative were the skin on fries, which were expensive at £3.25, I would expect a much bigger portion for the price. However it was a lovely tranquil place for lunch and I would revisit. This is a great place to go if you enjoy hiking as it is near to the great Langdale valley where there are loads of lovely walks, the atmosphere is relaxed and casual but the food is also very good with some (but not loads ofvegan options(I had the aubergine curry and vegan brownie which were both very good). The menu also clearly displays the CO2 footprint of each item which is excellent to see!
