Stopping in Amberg on our way to Prague, we spent a sunny afternoon walking around town. After seeing the sights, we decided to enjoy the classic cafe and kuche... read more Stopping in Amberg on our way to Prague, we spent a sunny afternoon walking around town. After seeing the sights, we decided to enjoy the classic cafe and kuchen (coffee and cake) for which German pastry shops are noted. The Cafe Dobmeier has a timeless...appearance of a small town cafe. The wide variety of cakes, which were clearly made on the premises, were fantastic. The ingredients were first rate and I have to think the recipes must have been in the family for years. Our coffee and cake were very reasonably priced which left us even happier with our choice for an afternoon break. All of the waiters (and a woman who I assume to be Frau Dobmeier) were all very pleasant and accommodating of our poor German. In a Europe that is increasingly becoming homogenized with chain restaurants and Starbucks, this cafe was the real deal and should be visited.
