Was Laura A at Canto Redondo a mag?
We were staying at Casa da Calçada Relaix Chateaux . It had been raining all afternoon so we decided to eat at the more informal restaurant. The burgers were large, well prepared and tasty. The fries were very fresh and crunchy. No complains. Good beer and Portuguese spumante. Friendly, but honestly, amateurish service. Staff need a little more grooming. Reasonable prices. What LouisVie dislikes about Canto Redondo:
The menu is prepared by a chef with 1 Michelin star. The food was unimaginative and borderline bland...I ordered “Huevos Revoltos” but with the chef’s own interpretation. The dish was too dry because the eggs were over cooked and I ended with two dry fried eggs on top of a very dry bed of fried potatoes! The cod was extremely salty and the chick peas were disgusting! I felt that I was eating “fast food” made by an am... View all feedback.

I am loathe to give anything even remotely connected with Casa da Calcada anything less than 5 stars but I feel that the cheaper retaurant needs a little work. I think it is a great idea to offer an alternative to Largo do Paco but there are still some teething issues such as the wine list being the same as that of a Michelin Starred restaurant, and the waiting staff having to fetch everything from elsewhere. The food was more than acceptable and we ordered a bottle of the Portal da Calcada which we thnk was excellent value for money (considering the setting).

This is the cheaper, non-Michelin star restaurant at the hotel Casa da Calcada. Absolutely superb food and we ate on the terrace with a wonderful view. It is a short menu with 5 choices in each section. The design of the dishes was as perfect as the cooking. The fois gras, veal, chocolate and macerated strawberries were highlights. (I’ve only left out one dish from that list, which was merely “pretty good” . Very well-priced considering the quality, service and location.

Interesting decor; loved the heavy royal purple theme. Food was very well-prepared. This place could use some quiet music piped in to provide a less tomb-like stillness, though!
