Guava Tree Cafe - Albuquerque
Guava Tree Cafe
Description
Nestled in Albuquerque, The Guava Tree offers a vibrant slice of Caribbean culture, drawing inspiration from its Puerto Rican roots. Diners rave about the authentic flavors and welcoming ambiance that transport them back home. Signature dishes like the Cubano and arepa pabellón delight with fresh, high-quality ingredients, while drinks like guava and passion fruit elevate the experience. However, some mention minor issues, such as pricing, wobbly tables, and occasionally loud music. Overall, this local gem provides a delightful dining adventure perfect for family outings or romantic dates, making it a recommended stop for both locals and visitors alike.

As a Cuban, I always have high standards since my grandmother sets the bar so high! The Guava Tree has a charming, authentic Cuban atmosphere. We started with the sampler platter as an appetizer, and we absolutely loved everything, especially the sauces! The tostones were a bit dry and lacked salt, but the sauces helped. The Cubano was good, though the Cuban bread was a little stale; overall, the sandwich was quite large for the price. The warm guava and cream cheese pastelito was excellent!
I absolutely love the newly renovated casita building. I've been a fan of this restaurant since its early days on Yale and Lead. No matter where it's located, I've consistently had excellent meals here. The food is always well-seasoned and delicious. Even though the walk-up counter style limits interactions with the staff, they remain courteous and ensure your food is served quickly. The patio features two tables on the west side and one near the north entrance, which is wheelchair accessible. The menu includes vegetarian options that can be adjusted to be vegan. They also offer a rotating selection of lemonades. It's a fantastic place to dine, and I really hope it lasts for many more years because I doubt I’ll ever be able to replicate their beef as well as they do.
Yummm!!! Guava Tree was highly recommended by several friends, so I had to give it a try! Their sandwiches are hot, fresh, and absolutely delicious. I even ordered some to go so I could enjoy it again later that day. Be sure to add the yucca fries to your sandwich, though honestly, even without them, you'll still have plenty of food! It’s a fantastic way to support local businesses while enjoying amazing food!
The Classic Bowl is the ideal lunch option for anyone seeking a moderately light taste of Cuba. The rice and beans were freshly prepared, and the thin slices of pork were tender and lightly seasoned. The avocado and arepa garnishes perfectly complemented this healthy yet flavorful dish. My lunch companions also praised their meals, the El Cubano and El Pollito sandwiches.
