The staff at Subway were unfriendly and seldom smiled; I had to repeat my order several times. The toppings on the menu looked dull and unappetizing. Additionally, they didn’t provide smaller cup options and attempted to charge me extra for what I requested. I certainly won’t be returning.
I asked for two slices of tomatoes, four baby spinach leaves evenly spread on the wrap, three banana peppers, and about five or six small black olives. Before I could ask about sauce or request more, he started wrapping the sandwich. When he checked if I needed anything else, I asked for a side of grilled chicken. Then things got confusing. As I went to the register to ask about portion sizes, the girl behind the counter started taking over my order. The guy preparing my wrap became rude to both of us, saying they couldn’t provide that and didn’t have cups for it. I visit various Subways monthly, and it was frustrating to hear that this location couldn’t offer a few strips of chicken on the side. Most places simply use a soup bowl, a water cup, or even a sub wrap for such requests. Finally, the guy said he’d get a bowl, and the girl responded sarcastically, "Fine, do what you want." She asked if I wanted the chicken heated—I said yes—but he insisted I have it cold. Overall, the disorganization and poor customer service made this visit frustrating, leaving me disappointed.
When I reached the register, I politely asked for a small cup of tap water to go with my meal. I avoid sugary fountain drinks because they’re unhealthy and just boost the restaurant’s profits. I prefer water with my turkey sandwich on whole grain bread. So, I was surprised when the employee told me I had to pay $1.99 for a cup of water. Seriously? It felt like a desperate attempt to squeeze extra money from customers. I asked to speak with the owner, who was standing right beside the cashier and saw the entire conversation. I asked if that was his final answer. He simply nodded without trying to justify this ridiculous policy, which ultimately hurt his own business that day. It was clear he cared more about charging for everything than about providing good service. As a result, I decided not to pay for the water or even the sandwich they’d just prepared. So, who really lost out here? I hope he enjoys the jalapeños on the turkey sandwich I left behind—both literally and figuratively. This franchise owner clearly lacks the skills to run a customer-friendly business, which is a shame. I quickly drove under two miles to another Subway on Watson Rd, where the staff was friendly and welcoming. I enjoyed two delicious chocolate chip cookies and, of course, my tap water—no problems at all. I will definitely be returning there!
Today, my son placed a takeout order for 7 PM after finishing his shift at Schnucks. When he got home, he found that he had been given someone else's sandwich, even though his receipt was correct. We drove back to the restaurant, and when he explained the mix-up to the staff member at the counter, she appeared surprised. After searching around, she found another bag with his actual order, which had been sitting on the counter for 30 minutes. There were no apologies or any kind gestures, such as offering a cookie or anything to compensate for the inconvenience—nothing at all!
