Was Devon Block at Mapo Restaurant a mag?
My wife & I stumbled across this restaurant and were it was terrific by two diners who were leaving. The service was excellent and my wife being coeliac was served a salmon dish and I had their seafood plate which contained principaly mussels and lots of other seafood with a delightful sauce. A bottle of wine and a cold beer and the night was a great success. View all feedback.
What SKIFOODS dislikes about Mapo Restaurant:
Its Korean fusion. This isnt what get eaten in Korea. People get confused and think its what Korean food looks like. Its a fine dining place. If your a customer the staff are nice but if you are not they can be very rude. View all feedback.
Three of us, two of whom had not been to a Korean restaurant ever. (Yes a surprise to me too lol). I have been to Mapo before and never disappointed. Today was no exception. Our waiter was extremely helpful and attentive in explaining various dishes and when asked about recommended house specialities and popular dishes was happy to provide information. Re wine choice of the three Barossa Shiraz on offer none of us were familiar with the vineyards and so the waiter gave us advice on request. Our waiter was exceptional. Not only did we take his advice on food selection but also the wine and we were all very, Very impressed and well satisfied. Food low down: Shared entree- arancini kimchi- yes not traditional Korean food but delicious all the same and the kimchi beautiful. The shared mains house speciality of coffee infused twice cooked pork ribs and we selected the seafood tempura bibimbap. (Most popular is the beef) The wine although a Shiraz did not distract from the delicate flavours. In regards to the atmosphere as I mention in the headline ours was an early dinner so the restaurant was quiet therefore no problem obtaining a table. However we did note upon leaving that the whole of Gouger St was relatively quiet. Hmmmn not a good thing about Radelaide at times! Maybe the rain put off diners??? Mapo is a 'old' classic in Gouger Street- I've never been disappointed in food quality or service and again the team there today did not disappoint. Highly recommended.
We used to live in Adelaide and loved Mapo's. We ate here regularly. It's been 5 years since we had a meal here and Mapo's didn't disappoint. The food is still simply delicious and their presentation is impressive. This is a MUST on any visit to Adelaide.
We just had dinner at Mapo and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was excellent and the ambience of the restaurant was good. The service was not perfect however we will definitely be back. All in all a great dining experience. A+

Tried this place upon recommendation as wouldn't have booked it by walking past. Booking was made for 7:30 and we were all questioning the quality of the food considering the restaurant was half empty and all full tables were the ones closest to the front and street view. The number of diners remained at this level throughout the night. The pork belly and 'kinky chicken' were very very good, the pork ribs however had amazing flavours but the cut of meat was very fatty, therefore unpleasant, and let the dish down. Wouldn't order the pork ribs again unless they start using a higher quality cut of meat. The food was very pleasant and would certainly revisit, which adds some confusion as to why the restaurant wasn't full. Maybe it's too expensive for an ordinary meal?
