Description

Midwest donut experiences vary: a family‑run bakery wins praise for flavorful staples—Lil' Smiles, apple‑cider donuts and fresh paczki—friendly staff and good sale value. Yet packaged and retail donuts often arrive dry or stale, with criticism of cheap oils and inconsistent freshness. More serious are allegations of foreign‑object contamination and dismissive QA handling at one supplier, casting doubt on claimed safety certifications. Shoppers are advised to favor trusted local bakeries, watch for quality and ingredient transparency, and be cautious with mass‑distributed packaged treats.

We found these today at Piggly Wiggly in Olive Branch, MS the first time ever seeing paczki anywhere down here since moving here 29 years ago. MMM! It was so nice. Granted lemon and strawberry were our only choices but the lemon has always been my favorite. They were fresh, for packaged treats, and flavorful. Nice taste from back home. Lovely.

I've bought 3 packages of donut holes over the course of 7 months from Kroger. These are gross. They're stale and no taste.

I bought the pumpkin cake donuts in my local Kroger here in Georgia. Finally a real pumpkin donut with the right amount of spice and flavor.

After 2.5 weeks, they concluded their investigation. Monty, their QA manager, contacted me and was incredibly condescending, dismissing my experience. He insisted that the glass was actually part of the flexible clamshell container and laughed at me when I tried to explain what happened. I had taken a sample of the clamshell and tested it against the glass—I found that the plastic couldn’t scratch materials like pine, white oak, bamboo, or Ipe, whereas the glass easily scratched all of them. Considering Ipe is one of the most dense and scratch-resistant woods available, it was clear that what I bit into was not part of the clamshell. A simple online search reveals that this is not the first time debris has been found in their products. Despite claiming to be an IFS food-safe facility, these issues persist. I cannot recommend this product or company to anyone; it’s evident they don’t take production issues seriously. Additionally, they have removed negative comments on their Facebook page regarding foreign objects found in their products. Ignoring these persistent problems will not make them go away.
