I got the apple cake and the strawberry cake bot... read more Cafe Liege is a Belgian style cafe with multiple locations in Aachen, and I visited the one near the cathedral. I got the apple cake and the strawberry cake both to go (6,80 EUR total) and they were both good. I'd definitely stop by Cafe Liege again when next in Aachen. The apple cake is very sweet and dense, moist and sticky with syrup. It was quite sweet, and there was a generous amount of thin apple slices inside. The strawberry cake was less sweet: it consisted of of a (slightly wet) tart shell filled with rich vanilla custard and topped with strawberries. The bright red gelatin on top looked a bit suspicious, but the taste was actually quite good.

I've travelled in 50 countries and have never had a better dessert than the Almond Frangipane at the Cafe. It was delicately light with a full almond taste and delicious vanilla flavored whipped cream. The perfect combination after a day of touring.
