This is an old-fashioned drive-in located along Route 6. The exterior, interior, and menu all exude a Showa era atmosphere, which gives it a unique charm and makes it a popular spot with long lines forming before noon. This time, I ordered the popular "Motsu-ni set meal for ¥880." The service was quick and the portion of rice was generous. The flavor is not too strong, so adding some shichimi spice for extra punch is recommended. Many customers were also ordering dishes with "motsu-ni." By the way, I can't help but wonder about the origin of the restaurant's name...
I visited this restaurant for the first time. When I looked at the menu, everything looked delicious and I had a hard time deciding what to order. I chose the deep-fried horse mackerel set meal, while my friend ordered the simmered horse offal set meal. It arrived in less than 10 minutes. The meal that was brought to us was different from what we had expected from looking at the menu - it was a hearty portion. I couldn't finish it all, so I asked the staff if I could take the leftovers home, and they said it was okay! They gave me a pack, bag, and rubber band. I packed up what I couldn't finish and ate it later. The horse mackerel was not fishy at all and was juicy, while the simmered horse offal was flavorful with a miso taste and very tender - I was very satisfied! I noticed that everyone eating there had hearty meals, and there were even women who finished everything. Since it is a drive-in along a national road, there were many big trucks and male customers. I felt that it was a popular restaurant among those who enjoy hearty meals. The staff were also friendly, and I would like to come back again.
The fluffy fried horse mackerel is extremely popular. And the motsu stew, where the acridity and fat have been removed, is also well-liked. At lunchtime, customers continue to come one after another without interruption, showing the prosperity of the restaurant. As is common in any region, what cannot be obtained in that region becomes a special treat. For example, in a hot spring town deep in the mountains. Seafood is a rare item, which is why it is displayed and served on a tray. On the contrary, in coastal areas, there is a desire for meat. Fried horse mackerel and grilled fish welcome customers from afar, while local workers eat grilled meat and motsu stew. How many drivers' bellies have been filled, how many dramas have been born, and how many countless moments of healing have been provided by this long-established drive-in, which has been in business for 47 years? The Drive-In Sazae in Watari-cho, Watari-gun, Miyagi Prefecture.
