Wainfleet - WAINFLEET
Wainfleet
Description
This roadside restaurant and attached motel is a surprising regional find: inventive, well-executed dishes (roast chicken, short ribs, pastas, desserts) and friendly staff pair with clean, recently renovated rooms and a pool for strong value. Experiences vary — customers report inconsistent food and service (overcooked steaks, missed appetizers), dated or run-down decor, occasional unpleasant smells, and needed repairs — but many praise the welcoming atmosphere and unique menu, making it worth a visit with some operational polish.

This is my favorite restaurant! I've been coming here for about three years, and the food has always been delicious and cooked to perfection. The service is consistently fast, friendly, and efficient. I've never been disappointed during any visit. I can't wait to go back! I highly recommend it.
I completely agree with other reviewers—the chef creates outstanding dishes, but the ambiance could use some enhancements. While the staff is consistently friendly, service can be a bit slow at times. Nonetheless, I’ve visited this restaurant several times with both family and colleagues, in groups large and small, and I’ve never had a disappointing meal! It’s definitely worth the trip, and all I can say is, “don’t judge a book by its cover!”
We checked in and quickly left for an event, so we didn't have a chance to thoroughly inspect the motel until we returned later. When we did, we found an open can of wet dog food in one of the drawers and some really unpleasant stains on the bed and bedding. It was clear that the room hadn't been cleaned properly. To make matters worse, other guests, whom I suspect live at the motel, were banging on our door and trying to hang out. As a result, we decided not to stay the night.
Went to the restaurant and was very disappointed. Never received the bread like other tables would have been nice to go with the mussels. Bruschetta was $8 for four small squares of bread with topping that slid off if you tried to eat with your hands. Main courses were okay but my wife's prime rib was over cooked and tough but it wasn't worth complaining. Ordered coffee and it was slightly cloudy water so we sent it back. The waitress said there have been complaints about the coffee. We were offered tea but no offer to brew a new pot of coffee. The table ordered 3 Crème Brûlée and when they arrived they were horrible. A classic Crème Brûlée is supposed to be a silky smooth and rich custard what we received was grey and had a scrambled egg texture. Which means the eggs in the Brûlée were over cooked. They were unappetizing so we sent them back. The chef had the arrogance to come out and tell us we didn't know what Crème Brûlée was. He has been doing this same French recipe for 40 years and this is how its done (except we have had it there before and that's not how it was). He finished telling us we knew nothing and went back to the kitchen. My wife is a chef with 32 years French training and is well aware of how to cook, but with someone that arrogant there was no point even talking to him. He didn't come to our table to explain how he does it just that we were wrong to not like them. We received the bill and they charged us for the Crème Brûlée's that we didn't eat. Never going back there again and I will be quite vocal if anyone ever asks me about where to eat.
