My wife and I have been coming here for 2 years. We've got a holiday home in Rye and we like to walk down to the No 16 beach for a view. The cafe serves great coffee. You can have it inside or out. They've set up a community library outside so you can take a book and leave another in return. The owner has sourced a great range of gluten free and healthy food and ethical products. There's plenty of reading material while you linger over your coffee.
Very good coffee supported by friendly staff and great service. Little convenience store with a lot of healthy and locally sourced items.
First, caution. This is an unpatrolled beach; there are no life guards. The sea can be very rough here and unsafe to swim in for the unwary. The beach here faces the open sea and not the bay. I like coming here to swim for abalone (it requires a fishing license). There are rock pools where you can take a dip and swim with the baby sharks and small fish. Thick kelp weeds cover a big section of the swimming area. If you are very lucky you can see a weedy sea dragon (a relative of the sea horse). The sea is magnificent to look at.
